I'm thinking of getting rims for my '89 Delta, but I don't really know much about lug patterns and such... the whole thing is very confusing to me. Could anyone tell me what I need to look for?
I was considering some sort of chrome spoke rim. Or maybe even something off another kind of Oldsmobile, which would probably be much cheaper than new rims. Anyone have any suggestions? |

Bolt pattern is 5 x 115mm
A great place to check out what tires to get with new wheels is:
http://www.tirerack.com
When you enter your vehicle to shop for tires there, it will give you the stock tire, which for your car is:
205/75-14, which is the exact same as mine.
So that's 205mm wide tire, 75mm tall tire, and 14 inch wheel.
Now, when you shop for wheels at tirerack.com, enter your car info, and this is a great way to reference the size tire you'll need to fit the wheel properly on your car and not need to recalibrate the speedometer. Like, click on one of the 16" wheels, and it will tell you what tire you should get if you plan on getting a 16" wheel, or 15"...etc. If you were to get 16" wheels, you should use 215/60-16. You can also use this Tire Size Calculator. If you enter 205/75-14 as your stock tire, and then enter 215/60-16 as your new tire, you'll see that the overall diameter will stay the same. This is what you want or else you'll end up recalibrating your speedometer or just driving around at the wrong speed. It will tell you at the bottom of the calculator, that if the speedometer was reading 60mph, you would actually be driving 60.1mph. Now that's as close as you'll get!
Hope that helped a little...

Have you talked to a tire shop at all about this? I went there one day to look at some catalogs, and ended up ordering a full set of rims! The tire shop will make sure you get rims that will fit your car's bolt pattern AND offset. You dont want to be slicing your tire every bump you hit. My rims were surprisingly cheap, not that they're extremely fancy or anything, but they look a hell of a lot better than hub caps.
Most tire shops wont make you feel pressured into buying something right there if you're just doing research. And if they do, you dont want to deal there. Choosing the right rims is a delicate process ;-) |
