Eh....no
I think a cowl hood like that used on a S-10 wouldn't look to bad though... 8)
Something like this:
But keeping the style of our hoods. Although it wouldn't be very functional :?
How would you make the hood scoop functional? It might not look too bad...

eek, i can't img src? anyway this is a rediculous mockup but it would scoop air... which would go thru a hole in the hood... and serve no purpose other than moving air and looking different |

| somehow I think you might be pleased with it for a week after it was cut, and then you might find it to be more of a pain than anything... I would buy a junker hood to cut a hole in, just to see how it would look before committing yourself! |

Just a few original "muscle car" hood scoop applications:
'69 (i think) Boss 302 Mustang
All the W30 style 442s
Mid 70s TAs with the shaker hood
'70 Chevelle SS with cowl induction
Early 70s Mopar used them on Cudas and Challangers
Those are just factory. There are goobs and goobs of 60s and 70s muscle cars out there with hood scoops added by the owner, some not, many are functional.
I think the primary consideration in using a hood scoop is first to ask will it be functional or not, and second to decide how it looks on the car. The first question will determine or negate the second when they are answered. What I mean is, I have seen cars driven as drag racers only that have hood scoops that may not look so good but they are functional and their purpose pre-determines whether they need to look good or not. |

I also tend to think people throw around the word "rice" a little too much.
What exactly is "ricey" about a hood scoop?
Domestic cars have been using them for years and yet, when the imports start putting them on now ALL scoops are rice?
Are rims that are all black rice? Even though the Buick GNX and Corvette ZR1 had them first? Most people around here tend to think that the blacked out rims are ricey.
What about fender vents? The old '40's, 50's, 60's cars had fender vents, louvers, etc. Same for the '87 Buick GNX. So did a lot of Aston Martin's, Jaguar's, etc. But as soon as a Civic puts a Z3 fender on, does that now make all cars with fender vents rice?
What about the '70 Superbird with its huge wing?
If there's anything we can learn from this, the imports and ricers are just trying immulate the truely great cars. Unfortunately, most are doing a horrible job at it. LOL :lo:

That is true about how practicly all things ''rice'' originated with american muscle/classics.
With the fender vetns, a main company who had them were Buick's... ALOT of them had fender vents all the way from the 50's
i still don't like black rims though :P why pay $$$ on a black rim when you can just take off your hubcaps :P
With the scoops, i tend not to like giant ones... instead, i like the one on the old 70 w-30's, low and wide... how i like my girls also  |

something important that some ricers dont understand is that those thousands upon thousands of dollars they invest in thier cars, are just going swirling down the drain.
Unless they plan to store thier cars, and only bring them out for shows, they're going to be driving them. And usually, I see them FLYING and RACING everywhere. Thats hard enough on equipment, but then they swap out springs so the cars bottom out on every bump, smashing the body and components around all the time...
How long do they expect thier cars to last? I know when I slapped 3800 down on my olds, I wanted a car that would put up with the way I drove, and last a long time.
I guess some people dont mind re-doing thier cars all the time when they break them, but I just can't understand it!!! I consider a vehicle an investment, not disposeable entertainment! |
