I've heard that the best bet is the rubberized ones with the metal core are best,but any particular make? Or other advice? Also,I have some ball-milled aluminum covers I got for my 79 Chevy 350...will they work on a 76 Olds 350 instead?

| Those are good gaskets but I don't think the valve covers from a chevy will fit your Olds. |

| I'm not a big fan of the rubberized gaskets, especially on an Olds engine. I use the thicker Ultra Seals and have had great luck with them. The rubber gaskets seem to need more retorque to seat them, and tend to move around more than the cork gaskets, causing leakage problems. Also, it's harder to use any type of sealer on the rubber ones vs. the cork style ones, if you feel the need to do so. |

Cork came from the factory and is hard to improve on. I have used cork since my of solid lifter days. Solids needed a weekly check and adjustment, so the covers had to come off weekly. I started using Prrmatex to glue the gaskets to the covers and then wheel bearing grease to the head side for easy removal and reinstallation without changing the gaskets. I've been doing the same since on all cover gasket repacements since, except I now use copper coat for glue.
Most of the time, one stays farther ahead by keeping it simple.
There are very few parts that wil interchange between SBO and SBC. Distributor cap is one that comes to mind.
