| When the Olds has been driven a short distance, just far enough for the car to get warmed up, the front brakes start to make a loud squeak. This gets slightly worse as you continue to drive the car. But if you wait a little while, and start it up again, the sound is gone for a few blocks. Does this mean that I need new brakes? I thought that I might, but why is the sound not there from the get go? |

sounds like the front pads are worn down to the squeal plates. This means when you step on the brakes, a loud abnoxious squealing sound will come from the pads, telling you its time for new pads.
They're cheap and easy to do, assuming its your pads, that is... Dont let that go too long, the squeal pads are hard on your rotors. |

| Makes sense, my aunt (the last owner) stands on the brakes, even though they were done about 15k ago. To give ya a idea, the gas pedel has about 5/16 inch of play in it,lol. Guess she got on it a few times. |
