well you could drop a lot of money into it to get okay power-or a better idea would be to go to a junk yard and get a stock 455 clean it up and slap a mild cam in it and get more power than you could from the 307, while spending less! or go and drive it while building a good 350 then swap it in when the 307 dies, if you dont mind doing the labor!
(my stock 307 in a beater buick did almost 20 passes with a plate nitrous system before croaking! got into the low 14 seconds with 150 Hp jetting (started at 75 Hp) before the top ring grooves let go and it also stripped all the plastic teeth off the cam gear!-had allot of fun with that car and paid 250 buck for it!)
good luck! schlim |

| i plan on swaping out my 307 for a 350 when i get a new car... i want to get the most out of my troubles, what engine/transmission combo would be most suitable for an 84 delta 88? i was also thinking i want to do some suspension mods while the engine is out, my car suffers from severe understeer and does not handle as if it deserves a 350, i was told there is some trick suspension peices in the retired 84 caprice police package cars that could fit my olds with little fabrication, could i actually find one of these and strip the parts from it? seems to be impossible to find aftermarket parts for the delta 88, any ideas would help me out alot |

Hi Brianritchie21787, All

What is your goal, budget and experience level?
A 350 Olds and the trans you already have, would be the logical choice for most people.
Rear gear change is the logical starting place, but the specifics depend on the intended use.

Do yourself a favor and don't do any front end work with the engine out.
All the good parts are probably worn out by the time a police car is retired. If not, the subsequent service as a Taxi will finish them off.
The next generation Caprice/Impalas front ends were ready for replacement at under 90K. Parts were/are expensive. Have you ever wondered why GM backed out and let Ford have the market?
When aftermarket parts are not available, the imagination can be a very effective substitute.
The alternative is to buy a cookie cutter car so you can use cookie cutter aftermarket parts.
