Sorry to hear about your Uncle.

Bill has more going on right now than I thought. I was hoping he could help because he's closer to you.

Using J&S for machine work would involve shipping charges, but they are one of the best.
Talk to him about your options.
He might be able to work with you to make sure your local machine shop gets the "Olds specific" work done right.

Good to hear you're getting off to a good start. What are the cam specs?

Regards, Norm

hey norm... i was over at 442.com in the F.A.Q. in the 350 engine section (whew that was a lot) and noticed one of the 1st things listed for building up a 350 was to use #5 / #7 heads. can you give me any info on this, and which would i be better off with? i have both 5a and 7a heads laying around... finally picked my engine up yesterday (it was in N.J.) . Thanks for the help m8.

Hi rage03usa, All,
Quote: ........ i was over at 442.com in the F.A.Q............. There is a lot of good information on 442.com, but there is some that has not been corrected yet. Quote: listed for building up a 350 was to use #5 / #7 heads.......... i have both 5a and 7a heads laying around .......... I understand, flow wise, the 5a is only a little worse that the 7a.

The heads you use will depend on the 350 you are building.

What heads came with your 350?

I'll need to verify what I'm thinking before I answer, then I'll be back.

Hi rage03usa, All
Quote: the 350 came with 3a heads.... The best SBO head to bolt on unported, is the 5.
If, when reading the 7a, the a is smaller and lower than the 7, it and 7 would be better because they already have hardened valve seats and flow is almost as good.
Next choice is 5A, and since you already have a pair, it's probably your best choice.
The other 7A (A in a direct line next to the 7) has larger combustion chambers (lower compression) and will have problems bolting onto the 350.

When it comes time to get the heads done it's important to use a shop that knows how to set the correct installed valve height to achieve the installed spring height. Not even a consideration with SBC.

Something else just occured to me.... running that th350 and my 3.73 posi rear end, im going to be turning a lot of rpms over 55 mph arent i? IIRC the th350 is geared the same as the 1-3 gears of my th200-4r... how much power do you think that 200-4r will take with the 126k miles on it? i dont have the funds to rebuild it atm, and im just wondering if ill be able to use that instead.
