like to say HI

my first olds experince was parents 1976 old cutlass supreme 4 door velet seat with consol shift....

next was mine 76 old cutlass 2 door loved that car...

after that I bought a 79 z-28 with no motor everybody want $$$$ for a 350 chevy so my father in law gave me a 350 olds (he thought) was knocking... typical rocker arm broke on it making the rattle...well it wasn't a 350 but a 403... everybody insited that I could not put it in a camaro.. well it in there and runnng I went through 2 403's in it...

but my pride and joy is a 1975old toronado (I call it my tornado) 455 powered FWD

also have a 1970 delta 88 or 98 455 rocket
also in my arsinal is
350 (maybe a rocket)
403 (in my z)
455 rocket (out of old police car)
455 rocket (1970 metioned above)
455 toronado

a few of my project include installing the 455 rocket in my 1980 TA that came with a factory 403

and a 87 burb that has a 6.2 diesel (bad) and maybe sticking in the other 455 rocket

Hi Norm, Its good to be back.

403Z,

If you have 10 bolt valve covers, then you have earlier heads, like pre 1975 IIRC. The 5 bolt valve cover heads are 75- on. It makes no inference to being a "rocket" or not. You will notice that the later heads have the machined boss for the hole, but no hole is there. Same goes for the valve covers. Someone will correct me if I am wrong.

Andrew :santa:

BTW, I had a set of #8 heads that were post '75 (I think, I dont know for sure) that were 10 bolt but the valve covers on that engine were 5 bolt. I am thinking that someone replaced them, but I am not exactly sure.

They lowered manufacturing cost on the later engines, by making a stiffer VC and eliminating 5 bolts per head.

Covers are physically interchangeable. The 5 bolt will work well on a 10 bolt head. A quality 10 bolt cover will work on a 5 bolt head.

Don't know about 6 and 9 holes. What heads are you looking at?

Regards, Norm
