hi all,
I really overwhelmed from this ricers in our country too... they are increasing day by day in the streets and these damn people are risking eveybody life in streets here my comment about this issue is not generalization i think it is based on some good observation... we few people that like american cars here are not driving mad like them.. i respect japanese technology but these japanese cars are marketing like they are rocket or Falcon 16... i suppose these marketings style has in muscle car area years ago.. i heavly blame japanese companies about that... they say its very economical and speedy.(how can it both economical and speedy?)...and their very nonsense futuristic desing attracts people... also they see japanese cars heere like economical rockets...also they are mmarketing in way like that... our people know Honda is a VERY RELIABLE car and advices each other... the way that i dont understand is people considering economy also looks for some speedy japanese car... they look for speed and little ricer power and they search this on an economical (JUST SEEMS)japanese... i never drive dangerously but when i see these ricers that threaten peoples lifes in traffic with their MAtchboxes i got very overwhelmed and think to drive my car to their rear bumpers... and i wait for the day these economical seems japanese car fashion ends... god save us all from these ricers..

Japanese cars are just a fad... They're in style right now, so everyone wants one. 20 years ago, camaros, mustangs and the like ruled the popular demand. But, one thing stayed the same - people's need to drive fast and dangerously. There are just as many young & stupid drivers on the road today as there was 20 years ago - they're just driving different cars.
Certainly, wild drivers are dangerous and its an issue, but its definately not the japanese car manufacturers fault, and neither is the plastic-clad matchbox that they produce...

yeah you are and all you right but how about the ones with parts like very huge nonsense wings... these parts costs here as much more than US.... they go and pay to this stuff while with that money you can restore a american beauty... and you get more feedback from the car than ricer cars when do this restoration... but its just enjoymant some like that some like the others .. by the way i wonder these new 2005 mustangs selling rates and overall satisfaction among users in USA? in our country the dealers bring here alot of them... but i never saw one in the istanbull.. i think it did not made the effect they expect isnt it?

I cant blame some of these other guys for getting Jap cars over American. My dad has a 2000 Civic LX 4-dr with a 1.6L engine, it blows the doors in on my 85 Oldsmobile with the 2.5. There have been a few times when I have had to follow him somewhere and I cant keep up. His car is quiet, fast, great on gas, has ac/pw/pdl/pm and hasnt cost him much to maintain. My Olds which only has 77,000 miles is loud, slow, over weight, and gets 1/2 his gas milage. The only thing American cars still have is comfort.

I have to admit, japenese engines are very efficient. Usually when comparing engines of same size, the japenese one will have more horsepower, and better fuel economy. One reason would be the transmission for fuel economy, GM keeps slapping on the 4 speed hydramatic tranny on everything, i think thats hurting them everyone wants efficient cars with the gas prices. Also 4 valves per cylinder makes more power and makes it more efficient, i believe almost all honda motors have 4 valves per cylinder, yet GM keeps slaping on 2 valves per cylinder, maybe for the torque?? It is a phase and one day there will be tons and tons of modded imports for sale.
You see people racing with 1.6L's and you wonder why, well from factory they come built very efficient.
GM's 3800 series engine is making 205HP and 230ft-lbs
Nissans 3.5L in the Maxima is making 265HP and 255ft-lbs
How? Overhead valves compared to DOHC
Fuel economy numbers are the same except the 3800 in the park avenue has 1mpg more, if GM would slap a 5 speed auto or a 6 speed auto they could raise the highway efficency alot higher.
You cant compare a car of 1985 and 2000 so much technical improvement, compare ur olds to and 85 civic something more comparable.

GM is still using pushrod technology. They havent really put much in to R&D in new stuff. Hell, even the northstar was designed in the 60's. It was a variant on the Olds OW-30 project. The OW-30 was an all aluminum, DOHC, 4valve Olds 455. Wouldnt that have been sweet. And that was in 1967. But I agree, the Japeneese have surpassed the general long ago with the technology used in the engines.

Hi Joes 94 cutty, all,

I have to disagree. Some of the best daily drivers are imports. Look at the Toyota Supra. Good gas milage, quick, and they run forever. If you get one that is RWD, they are even more fun. Supras sure can beat the hell out of my car, and yours, plus they get better gas milage. To top it off, they are also put together better than GMs are. Not that I like imports, but for a daily driver, they cant be beat. I believe that there is a big difference between an import and rice. By your definition, a BMW M3 is junk. Hardly so. I will never stray from my olds V8 for my fun cars, but for a daily driver, efficency, fuel economy, durability and longetivity are things that must be looked at. Unfortunatly for American car manfacturers, the Imports have it and we dont. With gas at over 2 bucks a gallon, give me a civic so I can afford to have my olds.

I still have to disagree... The noise is only a problem if its rice. And by rice, I mean a coffee canned, spraybombed "modded out" POS. The body lines on some, however, are pretty sleek. For instance, the 88-92 honda prelude. They are a little two door bastard with a real "sporty" look with a long front and a short back. They resemble a shoebox slightly smaller than a cutlass ceria, and they have a 1.9 DOHC 4 banger. (these are they days before VTEC) And other imports, such as a ferrarri, or a BMW, or even a Holden Monaro (rebadged in the US as the Pontiac GTO) All look good, and look better than some domestics.
