I started this topic because of this:
Good thing I have 2GB of ram....but that's one hell of a memory leak. With every update...firefox seems to get degraded more and more. It used to be good, but I find myself often reverting back to internet explorer (64-bit).
Current problems with firefox:
* opening image links (pop-ups) or the chat link at the top...it doesn't size correctly and I can't resize the window all the time, highly annoying...so I revert to IE which it works fine with (not just talking about oldsconnection....every web site).
* huge memory leak
* doesn't want to connect to a web site sometimes...yet IE loads the page up right away
* sometimes while I am typing, I need to type an apostrophe and it goes to the "find this page" feature at the bottom of the browser...I have to minimize the screen and go back in order to actually type an apostrophe
* copy and paste doesn't work right most of the time....
* PDF pages often freeze the browser up....can't open a new window in firefox...have to end firefox AND adobe with ctrl + alt + del
* numerous other small things that make me want to go insane....
I'm through with firefox...looking for an alternative...might just stick with IE. (I must say, the mozilla thunderbird email program does work nicely.)
So, what browser do you use?

I have the latest version... It uses 38000k on average... I am thinking you might have a plugin with a huge memory leak? I know one of the more recent updates was just horrible, but man, you have a big leak! I used to use Opera, maybe you would like that?

andrewk, I used to love opera also. I quit using it when they stuck mandatory advertisements at the top of the browser, until you bought the full version. Maybe they dont do that anymore?
I heard something about konqueror (Linux KDE native web-browser) being made for windows soon, and that would be sweet. Konqueror is a great little browser with most of the features, but lightning quick and very light (somewhat like firefox was in the beginning). Now I'm interested, and am going to go look. I'll let you know what I find.

Same thing happens on my laptop...bone stock firefox....I'm not going to attempt to fix the firefox code if that's what you're asking...

Man... thats still a ton of memory... I think you got a bad download. My roommate was just telling me how a couple versions ago (although you are current) his did the same thing. Maybe try re-downloading and reinstalling?

Brando, you dont suppose its got anything to do with windows xp 64-bit, do you? I am running firefox, one tab, winxp64, and its currently hogging 60 MB of memory. I've only been on the computer now for 20 minutes.
We may have found a problem between xp64 pretending its a 32 bit system and firefox? Thunderbird Email program is running also, and idle its hogging 35MB. Good thing I have a gig to throw around!
