Got a warning from Comcast about copyright infringement....the Digital Millennium Copyright Act. It was about sharing AutoCAD....I never even installed it...
So I deleted it, sent a reply saying it was, and hopefully that's it...

I am astounded... Comcast actually monitors P2P activity on thier network? Crazy. I wonder how they monitor it?
I would think they would only know if you are sharing the file, not if you downloaded it (unless they have a bait server), or have installed the program.

Have you heard what they're doing to stop people video-taping a new movie at the theatre and slapping it on the internet?
I just heard about this the other day on the radio, and it sounds like a stupid idea to me... They're sticking single frames in with the movie's video that say "ILLEGAL COPY" just often enough that the camera picks it up. When you watch the recorded copy, its near un-watchable with the flickering ILLEGAL COPY showing.
I would think they will have a hard time synchronizing the illegal copy frames with a video camera's frame rate, but I can see how it would make it annoying enough not to want to watch it. The other problem I can see with it, is called subliminal advertising. Your mind will start to think it's an illegal copy after a few movies ... It'll send some people into epileptic shock!

Subliminal advertising was, supposedly, tried in movie theaters in the fifties. It was geared toward popcorn sales. Big controversy at the time.
They can't work if the brain doesn't get the message. The brain can't get the message unless the viewer is aware of it. If the message is up long enough to for the viewer to be aware of it, it is an interruption. The viewer gets upset by the interruption.
Result is, the theater loses the customers that would have bought the popcorn.
Actually, the ads were never used. It was only suggested that they were. The suggestion itself, was enough to increase popcorn sales.
And another "urban legend" was born.

The frames can exist, without the viewer's knowledge. When the prop on a small plane spins fast enough, you see through it, and forget that a prop is spinning in front of you.
The video camera, takes many still frames, and makes a moving picture out of it. Some careful timing on the movie editor's part, and they could make the ILLEGAL COPY image flicker, occasionally, on the video camera's replay. They would just have to offset the illegal copy frames, so that they clash with the video camera's frame rate. I beleive the average movie plays at 24 frames per second. The video camera does 29 as I remember from Adobe Primiere class. It is certainly possible, but, again, not very practical.
Brando is right, the video taped movies are a waste of time and bandwidth. I get right upset when I finish downloading a 700+MB movie and its a taping (whoops, did I admit that out loud?? )

OK. The frames are still there.

I am not quite sure what your point is. The frames can exist in the theatre version without knowledge of the viewer. Upon recording the theatre version with a video camera, the frames were placed in such a way that they will be visible to the viewer upon replay due to a difference in frame rates.

In film, those specific frames have to be separated in order to be "invisible". To make the message show on the tape, many of those frames would have to be placed together during the recording process.
I can see the reverse (separating frames) but not combining them.
