Anybody do some fishing here? What lures do you use? What (reel/rod)'s do you have? Where do you fish?
I only got really interested in it last summer....lots of fun, good times. Didn't catch shit, but I'm gonna be ready this time around...
I didn't have any lures before, now I do. And my reel/rod combo is a little to light duty....so I'd like to hear what others use. I'm pretty dead set on an Ugly Stick rod (Shakespeare). Not sure what reel yet.
Just got all these lures off of eBay:
Much cheaper than buying em individually from the local tackle shop...
Got more than what was pictured even....I didn't realize how many lures it was by that picture....but I'm gonna need a bigger tackle box...
Got some RAPALA, BLUE FOX, BOMBER, DOA, STORM, COTTON CORDELL....some pretty nice stuff.
Also got a couple genuine daredevle spoons (along with others) in this package:
And some other misc stuff:
I had next to nothing for lures....now I do...

I have the "ugly stick" and it is so far the best 60 bucks I spend on fishing equipment. It's a 7 foot rod, max line diameter is 12Lb. I have had it now for about 6 years, no problems yet. I have caught many Bass with it, sometimes small Lakers and Pike if I get "lucky". Most of the lures you bought are Pike and Bass lures and seeing that your from Michigan, I'm sure you'll have no problem catching those fish in your area. If the Fishing Conservation Law in Michigan is similar to Ontario then I would suggest not fishing out of season, if caught they can take your equipment and will give you a hefty "Poaching" fine. Quantum makes great Spinning reels and they dont cost too much, but if you want quality and durability I think any Baitcasting reel from Quantum will do the trick. If your a Bass man like myself, stay in the shallow water and fish where there is lots of cover(for the fish!), like trees and sunken logs. Bass can be very a picky fish and love shelter, weather plays a huge role in fish activity as well, like casting towards the sun and reeling away from from sun(fish don't have eyelids) you should read up on Texas rigging and Carolina rigging, very fun indeed. I see you have a few Spinning baits...Dont lose those, those are also very effective baits. Check out this site! BassFan.com
It may help you, and prepare you for the upcoming season. If your up for it, try Bass fishing at night!...A must if you like big Bass
Got a question, I'll help try to help you out!

I'm no longer "dead set" on an ugly stick!
I'm pretty "dead set" on a shimano rod now, the ones with the over the counter lifetime warranty...can't beat it. Reviews are good on them too.

I ended up going with a two piece spinning rod, ordered a Team Daiwa Tierra 6.5 footer, medium action. 5 year warranty.
And a Team Daiwa Tierra 3000 spinning reel.
Haven't actually gotten the stuff yet, waiting for it...

Got the reel today....apparently the rod is backordered according to the packaging slip....as the box I received was way to small to fit a rod in it...
Pretty smooth, solid bail, nice drag adjustment, nice metallic dark blue, can't wait to try it out.

Finally got the rod....
It's beautiful.
Played around with it a little, put the reel on it and pretended that I was out fishing....
Feels pretty sensitive, should be good for the summer.

Yeah, I need to dig my stuff out... now that I have bags for the bike, I think I can take my gear ala motorcycle... Still have to try that one out though.
Oh, I have a Shimano rod, and a Mitchell reel. I use "spiderwire" for line... I like it because it can get wet, dry, then sit in the sun, and not get brittle like mono filament. I am thinking of going back to some triline or something to get a better comparision, but We will have to see.

Nope, haven't been out yet....sure would be nice to go out...still pretty busy with school right now.
Got a new reel and rod to try out...not sure if I posted about it.
Shakespeare Wondereel 1921 that I inherited from my grandpa.
Great condition....cleaned it up a bit, took it apart, oiled it up.
Found a matching Shakespeare Wonderod, green, wooden handle.
Has some Sufix Performance low-vis green braid on it.
Have to take some pics of it....

Date code on the wondereel is GE, it's from 1946. It had the original literature and the "tool". Not exactly the best reel out there, but it means something to me and I'll be happy to fish with it.
Can't seem to find any markings on the rod...so not sure how old it is...but I know it is old...in mint condition though.
The wondereel is "supposedly" thumbless....has anyone used one before? Curious to see how well it works....
It says... "Long Casts, No Backlashes -- No Thumbing"
