So I did a quick search and it doesn't seem like there is a thread on this... I know there has to be SOMEBODY on here that is as into home audio as I am. I just wanted to see what you guys have at home! Nobody is going to judge you on your system, so don't be shy.

Mine has taken me a few years to get together, and it seems to change all the time, but this is what I have right now:

In the living room, I have a Harman Kardon AVR 325 7.1 receiver powering a nearly complete Klipsch speaker system. The fronts are a pair of KG4 floor speakers, the center is a KV1, the rear surrounds are a pair of KG .5 bookshelf speakers. The sub is a KSW-12. The side surrounds are a pair of Acoustic Research PS-2262 towers (don't have to use stands that way). For video, I have an el cheapo RCA dvd player that upconverts to near high-def through and hdmi cable to a 37" Vizio LCD HDTV. I also have a computer that I built last week hooked up to the whole mess for music and videos (more info on that if you computer guys feel like asking).

In my bedroom, I have the reason for this post: I just picked up an older Denon receiver (DRA-210) and cd changer (DCM-210) along with a pair of KEF Q10 bookshelf speakers yesterday. I added an Acoustic Research S108PS (8 inch powered sub that I already had) for a little more bottom end. The speakers are shielded, so they can go on my computer desk without worry. I have the set hooked up to the computer and I've got a ridiculous set of computer speakers!

I am into audio/video, but no money for good equipment... But, I've got some neat things happening in my "home theatre".

I've got a Canon LVS3 projector, mounted on the roof in my basement, projecting onto a matte white wall. 8 foot picture is great.

I took all my measurements and found a perfect place for seating, and mounted all 7 surround speakers accordingly. I use an el-cheapo KOSS 7.1 dolby digital w/EX, that does the job, and sounds ok, but definately is no Bose or Harman/Kardon.

The computer is what makes the setup special. I am using the Turtle Beach Montego DDL sound card, that encodes real-time Dolby Digital signal, though the optical SPDIF input on my audio reciever. To my knowledge, there is only one game for PC that supports true dolby digital audio. That is Doom 3, and let me tell you, with the lights off, the projector running and you crank up the volume, it is a FREAKY game!!! Amazing sound positioning.

The nice thing about the sound card is the up-converting. It will take a standard MP3, and processes it into 7.1, and it does an excellent job too. Stuff like Need for Speed, and URU get up-converted quite nicely from direct-x's direct3d.

If you are into PC gaming and great surround sound, the dolby digital live is something you should not overlook. The only true way to get surround sound from the PC to your amplifier without 4 sets of rca cables. There are a few other sound cards that do dolby digital live besides the turtle beach.

Hmm, I may have to look into that... I've just got an old Turtle Beach Catalina card at this point for the optical connection to the H/K and an M-Audio Audiophile 2496 to hook up through the RCAs to the old Denon. I'm not into games, but I can definitely appreciate good surround sound!

You really don't have to spend a lot of money to get good sound, as I'm sure you've discovered. Pawn shops are my friend! I got the bedroom setup for under 40 bucks yesterday, and it sounds really good, IMHO. I've slowly pieced the living room setup together, on a pretty small budget. I got the HK for 100 bucks and some computer work (once again at the pawn shop). 88delta88, from what I've read of your posts, it sounds like you could probably swing something like that, depending on who you meet. You'd be amazed at what you can get for a little computer work! And really, if it sounds good to you, that's all that matters!

I will admit....my car audio rivals over my home audio stuff....

I really have nothing, sharp shelf system is about it, I'd like to put together some speakers though (choose drivers, build enclosure and crossover)....soon enough.

Our home theater is to say the least, outdated. 32" RCA CRT, Aiwa 500watts 5.1 receiver, KLH speaker set. It was cheap and that's why my dad had bought it...

My "home theater" consists of a 50 dollar surround sound system from wal-mart going through a apex dvd player and also i've got my xbox 360 and vcr rigged up to it. My system is nothing special but is definately better than just a tv and vcr. I enjoy it since it's actually got a nice couch and is separated from my "room"

Anything wrong with "just" a TV and a VCR?

Nothing wrong with that at all. Hell, I don't even have that. Just a TV with a cable connection.

Nothing special. It’s actually kind of embarrassing considering that I work in the home automation/theatre industry for a living.
