Seems like someone with those handles would know the difference between a J2 and a Tri Power.

Always a smarty in every crowd. You must have been looking in the mirror when you mentioned "BEWARE OF THE CLOWNS"

The clowns referenced in my sig are identified by their BS posts. Posts such as your first. They further ID themselves by resorting to using insults in place of any actual discussion of the topic. Kinda like, in your second post. Usually because they don't have a clue WTF they are talking about in the first place.

Now, did your name calling make my comment any less valid?

Norm

Play your games, I don't care. Too bad that you don't have anything else better to do than welcome new members such as me into the forum in such a dispecable way. You should be so proud of yourself.

Not a game.

Actually, I'm quite proud that I can point out some mistakes and misconceptions before they become "urban legends"

Speaking of mistakes, would you care to address the J2 vs Tri Power issue?

Don't you have anything better to do? Didn't your mama teach you any manners. Evidently not.

You should be proud you still dont get what Norm is saying. From 442.com, here are some differences between a J2 and a Tri-power intake. both are 3 2bbl carbs, but they ARE different.

442.com wrote:
The thermostat on the 1966 L-69 3x2 Tri-power manifold is further forward than on other Olds V-8s, due to the need to clear the front carb, and thus uses a unique molded bypass hose for this application. It also uses a pair of roughly square covers, one on either side of the center carb, bolted to the top of the exhaust crossover passageway. Each cap should have four bolt holes, but only be held on with two bolts. These are the exhaust crossover blockoffs on the 1966 manifold.

442.com wrote:
The J-2 intake fits 371cid blocks and 1957-58 heads ONLY. Have heard of it being adapted for similar applications, but Karl is reluctant to perform non-reversible operations on antiques.

The J-2 intake is a dual-plane intake that used a vacuum-actuated linkage. The center carb provided all idle and off-idle. At a centre carb throttle plate angle of something like 68' (degrees) the vacuum linkage would actuate, and open the end carbs, which operate at WOT only.

The linkage, if complete, is worth more than the bare intake, but probably not as much as a set of correct end carburetors. Not to mention air cleaners, or correct Air cleaner shroud (covered all three).

2GC uses an integral choke, while the 2GV uses a vacuum-break choke. The choke is actuated by a small diaphagm connected to steel tubing that disappears in the area of the exhaust manifold.

Not positive about functionality/routing of tubing.

The Original J-2 carbs are 2x2G (ends) and 2GC (center). These are, again, the small throttle plate variety.

Too bad I dont have anything better to do... The misinformation would keep moving from one mouth to the next.

We have the heat, we have humidity, we have the bullshit... now where are the mushrooms?

So we all understand it:

You post a piece of BS. I call you on it. You start name calling. You refuse to address the suject. You continue to name call.

And, I'm the bad guy.

I can live with that.

No, it was you that started all the bull crap. From now on, I won't even acknowledge that you exist. Have fun talking to yourself, because you won't get any more replys back from me.

Thanks, andrewk, I wasn't aware of the difference. Too bad 88 coupe, didn't have the decency to explain this to me the way you just did.

Hi andrewk, hello everyone,

Sorry Grasshopper.

This is one on those areas where, in addition to being redundant, 442.com has it wrong.

L-69 was a one year 3x2 carb setup used on the 400 only. Factory, literature, and dealers called it "Tri-Carb".

Still waiting for our new friend to stop running his mouth and start addressing the subject.

Norm

Maybe someday I can be a cricket, and not just a grasshopper...

So then the 'tri power' so to speak, is a pontiac product, and not affiliated with olds?

Wasnt aware of this difference... thanks for clearing that one up!

Is 442.com correct about the J2?

Andrew

Tri Power is a Pontiac trademark. No other Divsion, or Manufacturer has ever used it.

I'll keep it simple. As far as I know, yes.
