I just bought an '83 Delta 88 from some old guy. He said his son did the radio installation. As you may know, you can't put an aftermarket radio in the radio area without cutting. The dumbass cut the dash, but he cut it too big. So now i'm trying to find a way to fill in the gaps and also some way to screw the player in so that thieves can't have their way with my delta. Any answers are greatly appreciated.

Hey, good car ;)

My sugestions.. go to local junk yard and get a new dash cover thangiemabobber and cut it the correct size, be alot easier and cleaner looking then some how making it look good by rying to fill in gaps.

As far as securing it, well, i havent figured out a way since there is about a 1 inch gap between the sides of the stereo, what i did with mine was secured it with the tangs on the radio sleeve thangie to the cover, and then screwed it back on, best i could figure out. been like that for about 4 years. and then for my eq i just cut a hole bigger in the cover, and electrical taped it to the stereo by gouing around and around and around and around :)

I mean if someone really wants the stereo, they are going to get it no matter how good its screwed it, just a matter of an extra minute of them ripping it out.

when you replace it, do not use a store bought head unit mount kit. I always build my own, that way the thief has to learn how I mounted the cdplayer before he can remove it. I did this in my 84 caprice, and they stole EVERYTHING except the headunit... It was funny, there were a few burnt matches on the floor (i assume they were trying to figure out how it came apart), so they just took my faceplate and left the receiver... So the player was no use to me anyways, but thats how it should be done. Bolt that unit in there with all you can!!! Bolt everything you love to the car itself, and make it un-removeable.
