Please see the diagram below, and note that the total load impedance will be the sum of the impedance of each speaker. This results in an easier load for the amplifier, resulting in cooler operation and cleaner signal, but less power output.

Click the Calculator button to open a calculator in a new window. The calculator will allow you to determine the impedance of up to six speakers wired in series.

1. Parallel Connection of Two Speakers:

* Note that the impedance of two speakers in parallel will be one-half the rating of the subs, if both speakers are of the same impedance. This will result in a greater load being placed on your amplifier, so it is a good idea to make sure that the amp is stable for this lower impedance.
* The total impedance (or Z) of two speakers connected in parallel is determined by the formula

Total Z = Speaker 1 Z * Speaker 2 Z / Speaker 1 Z + Speaker 2 Z

If the impedance of each connected speaker is 4 ohms, the resulting total impedance:

Total Z = 4 * 4 / 4 + 4
Total Z = 16 / 8
Total Z = 2 ohms

2. Parallel Connection of More Than Two Speakers:
* The total impedance (or Z) of more than two speakers connected in parallel is determined by the formula:

Total Z = 1 / (1/Spkr 1 Z + 1/Spkr 2 Z + 1/Spkr 3 Z ...)

If the impedance of each connected speaker is 4 ohms, the resulting total impedance:

Total Z = 1 / (1/4 + 1/4 + 1/4)
Total Z = 1 / 3/4
Total Z = 1.33 ohms
