Thanks. Seems I missed the answer when I clipped (no pun intended) it out of the quote?

Brando, Looks like your keyboard might have a problem. I corrected your typo.

Now it is correct.

Brando hit it right on the head with the last link he posted. That's what I meant, but not what I wrote. Whoops! Yes, technically it is the user that kills his/her speakers from trying to get too power from his/her amp or deck and clipping it out. That is actually the link I was looking for when I posted, but apparently I didn't look hard enough! Thanks for all the positive comments! I'm really enjoying having a place where I can talk and learn about all this stuff and not bore the crap out of people. My roommates don't want to hear about it!

My 1987 H-Body has 10 AWG from the alternator, it was just a guestimate figuring it might be the same. From factory they really aren't that big since they didn't need to push 125+ amps of power for stereo equipment, or any other equipment for that matter. I'm not even sure if the alternator on those cars are bigger then 110amp.

From the alternator to the battery?

Norm

Yes, I had a 400 watt amp that drew less then 40 amps, I still got dimming from the stock factory 10AWG wire. It couldn't supply the power needed. I temporarily (temporary system, wasn't keeping it) hooked up some 2AWG from the alternator to the battery, and my dimming problem was gone. Although, from what I'm reading on Grave Reaper’s case, there is going to be more power (~145amps) then what the factory alternator can supply, so there we be a good amount of light dimming. Only way to correct that is a high output alternator.

That was my point.

Yes, one that has a terminal to match that larger wire.

I believe so. Or something right in that range. The 88 G Body should still have the Delco 10/12 SI with an internal regulator. Not that the alternator necessarily matters, but the harness is the same for most of that line. The red wire should either be 12, or 10 AWG wire, at least thats what my g-body was. But it was an 84.

I cant say for sure, but I know it is pretty good sized wire for the application. However, I dont think it is big enough for a big stereo system.
