So guys, how do you wire up an amp to 6x9s?? When i was wiring up the sub it got its sound from the RCA cables, but no RCA here.
So what kinf of an amp do I buy? And how does it hook up?

If someone can whip up some sort of an illustration that's all i would need.

You have no other outputs from your HU or you just don't wanna run another RCA?

Well, you can either get an amp that has hi-level speaker inputs built in. You would just take the speaker wire going to your 6x9s, plug it into the amp, and then wire the speaker outputs of the amp to your 6x9s of course.

You can also get a LOC, a line output converter, this would broaden your amplifier choice. David Navone has some high quality ones, lots of good reviews on them. You would need the NE-7V. What it does is convert the speaker outputs from your HU to low-level RCA outputs.

Not sure on the new head unit that's I'm getting in the mail, but since its new I'm pretty sure it does.

But are you saying that instead of using the stock wiring for the 6x9s, I can run an rca cable to a 2 channel amp and then hook up the 6x9s to it?

Just checked your stereo out, you have front, rear, and subwoofer preamp outputs. So you would just run RCA from the back of the head unit to a 2 channel amp. No usage of stock wiring.

Hmm, since I got fron too, maybe I should get a 4 channel amp. But is there a way to control the output of each channel, since obviously the 6x9s can take more juice then the front 3.5" speakers, and they're new so wouldn't wanna blow em. Or would I have to get two seperate 2 channel amps with different wattage ratings.

A four channel amp would work fine, you can adjust the gains to lower the output to the 3.5s....it's basically two 2 channel amps in one chassis.

*Note* the gains are not volume controls, they simply match the output voltage of the head unit to the amplifier.

Thought I'd add that disclaimer, don't turn up the gains thinking it's gonna do more power, it's just going to distort.

You'd wanna run a 4-channel set of RCAs, it's two pairs in one bundle...

What speakers do you have?

If you get a 4 channel, make sure it has a high pass filter for your front speakers. 3.5's cannot handle much bass at all. I wouldn't want anything below 200Hz playing on them things.

The fronts I know are rockford fosgate, the $80 pair, not sure for the 6x9s, but I'm probably going to get a new pair, forgot whay they are, I think Alpines, 3 way, and they can take 300 watts each.

I'd say even higher then that.....maybe 600hz

Yep that's whats in it.

They sound very clear and pretty good with just the HU. Should I just run an amp to the 6x9s and leave the front stock?

We took a 800 watt mono block subwoofer amp to my old ones, they didn't last long.



Grave, Keep the fronts on headunit power, add some bass blockers, and find a 2 channel amplifier for the 6x9's.
