Yep, I plan to change my system around again...
I told one of my friends at school that I was planning on changing my amplifier, and since he just got an Alpine Type R 10" Subwoofer he's looking for an amp for it....so I said I'd sell it for $100. He called today saying that he'd be willing to buy it....

So I plan to buy the stuff tomorrow, Kole Audio just came out last year (2003), and they are owned by Power Acoustik, here's what I am looking at:

Kole Audio Q2-980 Amplifier
Image
Features:
Hi Speed Digital Circuit
Fully Regulated PAM Power Supply
Full Selectable Crossover Hi/Full/Low
Four Way Protection Circuit
1 Ohm Stable Stereo
Bridging Synchronization
Variable Low Pass 50Hz-150Hz
Variable Subwoofer EQ @ 45Hz
Phase Switch 0-180
Remote Dash Mount Low Level Gain Control with Cable
Frequency Response : 15Hz to 150KHz
S/N Ratio :100dB
THD : 0.5%
System Distress Indicator
Inputs Sensitivity : 200 mv - 8V
Dual Mono Speaker Output Connectors
Gold Plated Heavy Duty Power & Speaker Terminals.

560 watts MONO RMS
980 watts BRIDGED MAX

Kole Audio C1.5SD 1.5 Farad Digital Capacitor
Image
Features:
Digital power capacitor with auto control turn 0n/Off circuitry
1.5 Farad
24 Volts DC
Digital display
Blue light neon ring
Digital BLUE light voltage display
Square shaped silver chrome metal case
Charging / discharging signal blue flash LEDs
Lowest E.S.R and less 5% capacity tolerance
Metal mounting brackets

So I plan on getting this amp to power my Adire Audio Shiva, should bump pretty good, and I plan to get the capacitor to have some juice readily available for some bass punch....knaw' m sayin' :D

Today I went to Best Buy....and I bought something relating to car audio....
Monster Cable interlink MicroXLN 2 Channel RCA Cable....XTRA LOW NOISE....it's a pretty nice cable....ran me $52.99, but I had a $40 gift card so it was coo' :P
Image
Here's a little description:
Xtra Low Noise Ultra-Compact Car Audio Interconnect with Multiple Gauge High and Low Frequency Wire Networks.
* CES Innovations award winner!
* Micro Design for "Invisible" Installations.
* Superior Inductive Loop Area Noise Rejection - Over 60dB.
* Extended Frequency Response for Exceptionally Full, Tight Bass.
* 24k Gold Contact Patented Stubby Connectors.
* High Performance, Low Noise in a Super-Compact Cable.

Should turn out to be a pretty nice system....along with my Infinity Kappa 3.5" speakers :D

I included a picture of the Monster Cable Interconnects I got up above...
$5 cheaper at parts express...but I didn't have a gift card for Parts Express....so...yea :)

I'll try and get some pictures of the system when it's finished, I'll probably do some fabrication/woodworking over this coming spring/summer

nice to know I'm not the only one sinking money into stereo this winter...

I'll be swapping out my sub amp for a different model...the Pioneer GM-X862 simply doesn't push enough power when bridged mono to support 2 Soundstream SPL 15 DVC subs, sooooooo.........

out it comes to be sold, and in its place will be going....

a Rockford Fosgate P1100a2 2 channel...
"Performance
Pansy, wimp, or wuss are not adjectives that you’re likely to come across in descriptions of the 1100a2. However, powerhouse or current hog fit the bill quite well. Driving a 4-ohm reactive load, this beast produced nearly a kilowatt on our test bench and nearly 1400 watts driving a 4-ohm resistive load with a 14.6 V supply."

1400 watts of pure unadulterated POWER!!!!!
I also will be upgrading to either a SI model internally regulated alternator at 100 amps, or the new CI alternator at 120 amps

when this amp was available new, it listed in the $800-1000 range...bought it used with little useage for $275.

LET THE WINDOW BREAKING AND HEADLIGHT DIMMING BEGIIIIIINNNN!!!!

Amen!
My amp is coming tomorrow...woohoo...finally....but my capacitor is on backorder...so.... :(

1400 watts....sounds good.....at least it will for a short period...until you start to lose hearing and have to turn it louder...and louder...and louder, until it won't go louder and so you buy something bigger to keep the process going!

good thing I know where theres another 70 vista with good glass

so total peak power will now be near the 2000 watt range

I also may be pulling my Pioneer CD deck and changer combo in favor of an older Alpine 3 disc indash reciever with no internal amplification, just preamp outputs...should get a cleaner, more powerful signal to the parametric EQ and amps than the internally amplified deck..granted, it is an older model, probably 7-8 years old, but still has wireless remote like my pioneer, better signal quality, and the convenience of 3 discs upfront, vs. having to run to the rear of the car to change CD's in the changer, which gets to be a hassle, especially when I have to move the subs to get to the changer..plus, at a price of $100 for the Alpine unit, I can either throw the Pioneer deck and changer into the 442 or sell it and buy a single CD unit instead for it

"(Rockford Fosgate recommends the use of large power capacitors to bolster the amplifier if you experience any problems with your stock electrical system.) This isn’t to say that you’ll be disappointed with its real-world performance, but we had to parallel two power supplies just to feed this thing. Our normal test DC supply has a current limit of about 120 amps, and it fell short by a considerable margin."

You might want a bigger alternator!
Maybe a 230 amp.....
