I ahve a slight problem. My drivers side power window dies a while back. I Hceck the switch and it was putting out power when the switch was used. So I ASSUMED motor problem. Because I didnt really like the idea of tearing that thing apart i bought a used motor from a junk yard(got it from the rear door since it is the same things but not used AS much as a driver side front) and had someone put it in. They found both motors worked but it didnt go up and down. This mechanic said my swicth was bad. but i said that power is passed through. Tonight I was messig with it. If i take the wires off the switch and apply to the wirs that come out of the switch directly every window moves except the drivers side. Well the wires go from the switchinto a the door...I traced the motors. wires from the motor to the bunch of wires which to me looks like they go back into the car somewhere. So I cut these wires and applied power directly to the wires and they go up and down. Now I have not gotten a chance to try this with the switch cause to be honest i messed up the wire something on the switch when iw s messing around. DOUGHT!

So what could i be missing. I looked at the wiring digram in my hayes manual and I was thinking it could be the power window control module but is that the thing the switch's plug into on the drivers side door or something in the car somewhere.

HELP

Hi theburningcandle, hello all,

Quote:
.............mechanic said my switch was bad.................

I would think he would have checked the switch before he made the statement.

I would reassemble all parts and check each circuit along with all grounds, and make the necessary repairs.

I always verify a part is bad before I replace it.

If you are going to use a mechanic (tech) I suggest you let him do the job.

Regards, Norm

No he didnt check the switch...he just said the switch was bad. When you put the volt meter to it it puts voltage out like all the otehr switches. Also if i hook another window to that same switch that windo goes up and down. So the switch is not bad.

Note the part that I screwed up is a lead on for the positive onb the switch. For those who haven't looked at one of these window control units on the drivers door the set of 4 switches plugs into a box that all the lead control wires for the windows goes to. What I am trying to figure out if the wires from that box dont seem to do directly to the motor. SO I am trying to figure out that if i go directly from the box to the motor will i be bypassing something i shouldn't in the car. I tell you what when my window went down then back up I about jumoped for joy.

So what I am wondering is there a power window control modual somewhere in the car i am just not seeing?

I would bet on a bad wire or connection in the door for that particular motor. Also, simply having 12 volts on the backside of a switch without the load on it means nothing. You could have a high resistance short which loads down the circuit considerably, especially dc motor circuits. This would cause the motor to not work.
