The Government Should Increase Speed Limits on MI Highways
That's the title of my English paper I just did, I just wanted to give a few interesting facts:

Some people have actually tried to increase the speed limits on Michigan highways before by bringing it to court. They failed in doing so because the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration issued a document claiming that the Autobahn fatality rate is six times higher than that of U.S. Interstate highways. After months of pressure and inquiries by the National Motorists Association, NHTSA head Ricardo Martinez has admitted that the Autobahn statistics came largely from highways in the former East Germany rather than just the Western Autobahns that most people associate with high-speed travel. In fact, a report by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety shows the fatality rate on the Western Autobahn has been virtually identical to death rates on U.S. Interstates for over ten years.

In a test on U.S. Interstate highways, lowering posted speed limits did not reduce accidents. Conversely, raising the posted speed limits did not increase accidents. It is interesting to note that compliance decreased when speed limits were lowered and accidents tended to increase. Conversely, when compliance improved after speed limits are raised, accidents tended to decrease.
These are all true facts. 8)
I'd like to hear some input from you guys, what do you think?
