The problem you run into with progressive coils is that they can be very unpredictable in the corners. Sure they may ride a little nicer than just a straight, stiffer, standard coil but when you get into the turns, you don't always know what your going to get with the progressives.
With the standard coil its the same stiffness all of the time whether your cornering, cruising or what have you.
My understanding is: By the time you get into the stiff part of the spring, you've lost the advantage you never had.
