ST300 (Olds called it Jetaway) 1.76:1 first gear and 1:1 second, with a "variable-pitch" converter that had a high "stall" available, at the flip of a switch.
I'm happy with mine.

Change rear gears and/or tire sizes, or go to an overdrive trans.

Three speeds: 2.52:1 first, 1.52:1 second, and 1:1 third.
Same external dimensions as your ST300 and will bolt in with no driveshaft modifications. TV (kick down) cable replaces the ST300 switches, and the shift linkage must be modified.
Note: The final drive will be unchanged.

Same trans as a TH400. Three speeds: 2.48:1 first, 1.48:1 second, and 1:1 third.
Bigger, heavier, and consumes more power. Rear cross member needs to be moved rearward by about 6 inches to fit the trans mount, shift linkage modified, needs a larger driveshaft yoke and switched power to the kick down solenoid.
Again: The final drive will be unchanged.

Since "cruising" not "racing" is your intent, you can use a TH200R4 and the "lockup" TC that it was designed to use. Should work well with your 3.08 gears and stock size tires.
4 speeds: 2.75:1 first, 1.57:1 second, 1:1 third, and 0.67:1 fourth.
Rear cross member needs to be moved rearward by about 6 inches to fit the trans mount, shift linkage modified, and a TV cable adapted to the carb.
