Just thought I'd stimulate the discussion somehow.

I'm getting my '90 88 Royale ready for a trip across the Rocky Mountains for the the summer. I've made the trip once before with the same car but that was before I'd learned some of the finer points of maintenance.

Some of the things I've done to prepare the car:
New tires - balanced
Oil Change
Fuel filter change
Chassie lube up
Attached auxillary driving lights (wanted more visability for those dark mountain roads)

If anyone else has any ideas for road triping preperation, please share. I was thinking of flushing the coolant system also and maybe changing the spark plugs, but I'm not sure it will make much a difference.

Body wise this car has seen much better days, but the engine amd most parts are still running like a champ. Gotta love the Eighty Eights.

Factory Service Manual should contain the maintenance schedule for your car. Plugs are changed on an "as needed" basis.

Exception is: coolant should be changed every two years, regardless of mileage.

Make sure they are not "aimed" at the eyes of oncoming drivers.

I have the haynes repair manual which has been pretty good so far. Thanks for the link though, as I'll probably need to upgrade manuals eventully.

Question about this, as I have never done it myself.

Does the system need to be drained from more then one point? I think in my manual it says something about draining the engine block of coolant also. If this is the correct procedure, then where abouts on the egine are these plugs located, as my manual only provides very close up shots of them.

Haynes manual is not a good substitute for the Factory version.

Pro = Its information comes from the same place.
Con = Not enough it is in the Haynes version.

Should be one (⅜"?) "pipe plug" on each side of the block.
