What are you going to do to your car?
I am going to:
Install 170 amp alternator (when it gets here)
Upgrade Power wires to 4 gauge wire I have (battery to alt, battery to chassis, engine to chassis)
Install new rear struts
Mount component speakers in doors
Upgrade Olds emblems, if I can find some that aren't faded
Replace passenger side taillight (has a small crack)
Find some nice aftermarket or nice stock Olds wheels?
Pull out dents, sand down body, bondo, sand, and paint the damn thang!

I am also going to be installing a system in my friend's Taurus. (Shiva, Build Sealed Box, Profile Amp, and Lightning Audio wires)

well... on my car... Listed in priority.

1. Finish covering my dash w/fur ;-)
2. She's due for an extensive polish and wax (thinking about trying out new Turtle Wax Ultimate Shine, any one have comments?)
2. New tires soon
3. New fog lights
4. Front passenger fender small damage repair (or replace and paint completely different fender)

Until I think of more things I want to do, my car is almost completed... Almost time for a new project Oldsmobile!!!

you may think i'm nuts for doing this but just look at the difference for yourself.
as you all probably know ,my car is becoming quite dull with age.
i accidently got a lil oil on my door 1 day and noticed it brought back much of the color it once had.
so i got a rag and wiped the entire right side of my car with this 3 in 1 oil.
it hid all the white haze and made the car dark again.
it's not exactly a mirror finish but diffenetaly a huge difference.
take a look.
this is when i finsihed waxing/oiling it.

you can find a before pic somewhere in my album if your unsure what it looked like before..

the only problem I can think of is dust... dust will cling to oil like nobody's business... But just keep it washed and maybe it'll be ok.. Not sure how long oil will stick to the surface of your paint for?

Have you tried that "NuFinish" stuff?
It supposed to be for the exact problem you're having...give it a try!

I've used that stuff and it doesn't seem to work much better than regular cleaner wax, I'd say you'd need a buffing wheel, polishing compound / scratch remover and someone who has some experience running a buffer (when using some of the heavier compounds you can do more harm than good if you don't know what you're doing)

88Ciera- Do you keep your car in a garage? If not you should, or at least get a car cover! Thats too nice of a car to let the sun and rain/snow damage it, and something like a SC isnt a car you see everyday. What kind of wax do you use? I use Meguirs Gold Class, and on my dads Civic it brngs the color right back (its dark green and starts too get lighter/fade very fast since it isnt in the garge due to the Olds moving it).

i've used Meguirs Gold Class before, still have some actually.
worked good when the car had paint..
the paint on my car is gone..
believe me..i know..

i blame it intirely on the fact that she doesn't get a break from the sun...
used to shine great but time has taken it's toll..
tried buffing but it just takes whats left of the paint off..
only thing to do is repaint her but i'm afraid i dont have the extra cash to do that..
i try to wax it anyways but the paint is so rough now that the wax dries in the pores and turns the car white..thus the white streaks in the paint..

i've been experimenting on the hood and found that if i use a real fine sand paper on it that it smooths it out real nice..
bad thing about the sandpaper is that it takes alot of the paint off with it.
i've actually got it down to the bare metal in a few spots.
had to use a can of spray paint on it just to cover the metal with something.

way i figure it 1 day i will have my wish and she'll be back to factory maroon or garnet red..for now i'll just live with it the way it is.
It's all fixable and for a car to still look that good with such a bad paint job says something about the car..

Image

she's falling apart before my very eyes..
about ready to tear all that gray molding off the car.
no it's not paint,it's actual rubber like moulding glued to the sides of car.
It's more of a yellow/brown now and no longer soft..it's hard like plastic. i've reglued it back on in a few spots..

anyone know where i can get that..would like to replace it 1 day also..

Wow sounds like thats some tired paint, sounds like the clear coat is gone, think your only option is paint and a car cover/garage.
