i've heard that the flags represent the "international series" but for some reason i cant explain,i dont believe this explenation, not that 2 words really explain anything at all.

ciera's where made in canada and u.s. only, to my knowledge, so you'd think there would only be 2 flags there..

i'm starting to believe that it's just a fancy emblem that means absolutely nothing.

the "FE3" emblem on the trunk lid on the other hand is a whole different BEAST,especially when coupled with the 3.8L and 4 spd.tranny.

Flags where just for looks, no particular meaning except for a marketing attempt. FE3 is the designation for the suspension package.

here's a question slightly off topic, but nonetheless related to olds history...

What does 442 stand for? I've been told once that it meant 4BARREL 4SPEED 2(DUAL)EXHAUST.

Or does it have a meaning at all?

Cool! Good to know, although I dont think the last statement can be true... 4cyl 4valve 2cam... I think there would be more than 4 valves in there... even if it were 4 valves per cam, most 4cyl engines are at least 12 or 16 valve...

Who knows...

Thanks 73delta...
