ok i have a 1994 olds cutlass ceira s and i was wondering if it had a dummy battery light that comes on when the battery is low. The reason i ask this is because i have a system in my car and the dash lights that light up at night on the left side is burned out and i really don't think that has anything to do with it cause when i turn the key to start the regular lights come on and i was thinking about adding a volts guage to my car and i didn't know if i would really need one. thanks for your time and i hope i can get some help from you guys. thanks again.

your car will have a dummy alternator light. Unless you are running amazing amounts of power into your amplifier, or you just want to be able to watch your voltage, I wouldnt worry about installing one.

Some people like to see exactly what thier voltage is all the time. Unless your alt. light comes on, you've got more than 13V.

when you first turn the key on the light should light up briefly to show you that the light works, etc. When you turn the key on do you see a light that says something like "AMP", or "ALT", or "BATT" ? I'm not a mechanic but I know that's how it usually works on alot of vehicles, I'm sure someone else will chime in to verify.
