Excellent sartorial choice. Very similar to my own wardrobe.

Do you remember your Gramps mentioning the old saying, "if it don't go, chrome it"?

sorry norm it didnt happen...we ran into a few issues with the 4t80e swap and the fronts 4t60e stalling at over 4 grand at WOT (it is a quad4 converter that was a "high stall" 3100 converter...now it's getting twice the Tq lol we are really worried about blowing apart a 4500$ built trans esp since it's a good trans for one of the 4 other W bodies Al's family owns...lol
looks good though eh?

plus i've been busy as hell making custom 3800 SII fuel rails and trying to get the shop off the ground (gonna start selling some of my crazy idea's lol)

Good reason to miss the meet.

Reminds me of '70s Chev guys using Vega TCs to save cash. Saving cash is not always a good way to save cash.

Always top priority. Good luck with it.

I understand they work well on smaller engines. If you get any interesting numbers, send them my way.

thanks norm i've worked at work during the week 50+ hrs and i've been working on the weekends as well (though lately to get my garage furnace going...i must say it's nice to be in a T shirt than my carharts

check this out, he had a "custom" cam ground but i dont think it's the right one for this setup though belt slip is part of his problem...i just wish the damn dyno chart had more showing
http://www.clubgp.com/newforum/tm.asp?m ... =1&smode=1

the whippled Riv is getting consistent 13psi on a 3.8 pulley and there's a stack of parts next to erics bed for this winter well beyond what jonbob's car has done, the 4t80e swap stuff is going well but i am still working on the manifold pressure switch logic diferences between the 65 and 80

well time to go to bed gotta get up at 7

meh i can rest once i'm in my grave and benchracing with my gramps :D

Thanks for the dropping by.

About a third (134 miles) into his 400 mile trip, he passed within 5 miles of Famoso which is as good as, if not better than, Sacramento.

Hard to say without knowing what the heads flow.

On ClubGP, jonbob wrote:

Sounds like he thinks it's right.

Look to the old school for an easy fix.

That is, assuming the combo can handle more boost?

Don't be a stranger.

quick update on this for posterity. after building two formidable (380-420whp) sc and intercooled 3800's and two 4t80e caddy transaxles we decided our chassis wasnt cutting it since all the OEM parts are the source of most of our headaches.

so we went with a relativly KISS clean sheet design. over the years ive learned lots and now work at a cnc shop. doing so has let me develop the suspension...built like a tank for Wally Stroupe himself (kings mountain NC) to build the new chassis.

Al now has a 3 yo daughter so safety was sorta paramount...and Mr Stroupe has built several of these W bodies back in the day for top stock/pro mod ranks, and is a legendary builder in his own right. buisness was fairly slow and he wanted a challenge...we gave it to him lol

best part is we will drop over 1,000lbs of weight while optimizing the weight distribution to down low and near the cg. the cg is artificially moved forward with the traction bars out back (wheelie bars for fwd)

with a less than 3500 lb race weight and the two current powerplants we should be firmly into the 9's and into the high 8's on spray.

should be a Hairy ride....

regards, James, Al and "4-4-two much"

Thanks for the UPDATE!

You know--I was actually searching around the other day to see if I could find any news on what happened with your project.
Always was impressed with the project.
Quite a chassis being built there...nice go kart :D

I've gone to the dark side...
This is my "race" car...planning to supercharge it.

Well Tomorrow we leave to pickup the finished product at Wally Stroupe's shop in NC

Full tube chassis/cutlass tin/rocker boxes, built with 7.50+ upgrades in the future but certed for 8.5....since its a street car

yes its all steel, OE doors/hinges/trunk/hood/glass (though im going to be making the rear window and lower window frame removable, pop the trunk lid (using later model 98+ buick regal trunk hinges-mount to the side of the rear quarter skins and open to 95*...sweet)

rear chassis is removable to drop out the bottom for major service, the whole thing comes out, rad, fuel cell, suspension....only a few service disconnects...a huge improvment

full u/l A arm front suspension/coilovers. rear is a lower A arm with a 3 link upper so we can change the anti squat.

still possibly going to the rear engine being the primary and the front the secondary, that way the front exhaust can stay dual and dump below the front fenders behind the front tires, less weight, and the rear engines full muffled exhaust can be readily dropped for the track to save weight

Wally is actually confident that we'll be close to a 2600Lb race weight, im thinking closer to 3000, but one can hope....need to run the trailer across the scales on the way down and the way back to see what the roller weighs.

anyways... onto the pictures, enjoy, our tribute to the Hurst "Hairy" Olds...our 94 cutlass 4-4- two much

some pics from 2 weekends ago (we got there Thursday morning)

94 Oldsmobile cutlass coupe shell, from pinch welds to roof braces, all still there, , only the upper cowl/wiper box remains for the OE firewall., rear wheelhouses are gutted to the rear light mounts, from the base of the C pilar down.

a real street car is all steel, plus with the heat of two powertrains...power windows are gonna be a godsend till we get the HVAC stuff done down the road...WELL AFTER we get it driving lol

Image

here's Al... smug as a bug in a rug

here's a view of the front u/l A arms with the mockup knuckle
