Well who ever said turbo charging from scratch would be cheaper than going to the junkyard and pulling a couple S/C 3800 motors?? Thanks for the sarcasm too, I guess I'm not allowed to ask a couple questions.

Since they are cheaper and more efficient, and James will do most (if not all) of the fabrication, they will return far more power for the buck. Ask away. Questions/discussion are what this board is about.
Using your logic, I guess I'm not allowed to answer your questions because you think I'm sarcastic.

ohhhh whats dis?
ya wont believe how much weight the 442 lost just going from the factory rims to these fella's
we scored em off a 99 GP...they need to be stripped and polished...but other than a couple very small nicks they have absolutly no curb rash!!!
total cost: practically stole em....
oh and a new pic of the SI/SII tall deck Hybrid, yes you can mix n match the SI/SII brackets...
regards, James
BTW, we just ordered the external wastegate and BOV to go with the turbocharger on the LN3...we also have the electric sender autometer gauges for monitering the rear engine/trans/boost.
so yeah...next time we go to the track shjould show some improvment...

Hi Turbocharged400sbc, All,

They'll improve your 60s where you need it most.
After my second sub 12 second pass, and the "evil eye" from the "roll bar police", I went back to steel rear wheels and my 60s went up by well over a tenth.
Looking forward to your next time out.
Regards, Norm

you bet we are!
one turbo + turbosmart 38mm Wastegate and Blow off valve=FUN!
we just have one small portion of the inner wheelwell's and inner firewall to finish up (all hand formed/welded sheetmetal). the new aluminum radiator dropped ~30 lbs over the old used brass Van unit, i have the tube to lose weight by deleting the steering rack...all new high temp thermal insulation (it does get warm with two engines pumping out heat!) and to ditch the heavy flamable factory stuff...
oh some pics...
Turbosmart Ultra-Gate 38
Turbosmart Type 1 BOV
Autometer electric sender ultra-lite gauges (so far we have oil pressure/water temp/boost-next up is A/F, EGT, engine oil temp, our chepo rear engine tach works fine..fer now
yuuuup goin faster

a bigggg one
we'll be using (aka i'm letting Al "Borrow") my turbo for my turbocharged 400sbc which fed 12 psi on a 350 no problem
this is while the mitsu TD06 17c-8cm^2 is rebuilt and upgraded to 20g-12cm^2 trim...which will support 750Hp

got some new stuff for the 442's fuel system....aeroquip and earl's
oh and the other boost and vacum gauge
so now we have 2 boost gauges, one electric sender oil pressure, and one electric sender coolant temp
now just need the oil and coolant gauges for the front...a volt gauge two 3.5 inch tachs and one 5 inch 200mph speedo
AN6 fittings and line for the dual fuel returns into one for the fuel cell... the pressure side is all Aeromotive and Earl's with a bit of magnaflow...now the return side should be up to tech...
and here's the AN-8 45* i needed for the new aeromotive fuel pump location...
and here's the second boost/vac gauge...gotta collect the whole set still...
gotta love them procomp ultra lites
BTW thats 120$ in just the braided hose and fittings...extra 50$ on the gauge
i have yet to weld in the rest of the 10pt (well it will be a 12pt) when we also do the dash, so we really dont have a shortage of stuff to do.
3ft and 6ft 6an stainless with fittings for trans cooler, trans circulation pump and checkvalve manifold assembly (another 150$)
45* SAE flare to 6an adaptors for the fabricated radiator trans cooler, i have yet to buy the parts for the external land rover trans cooler with trans temp sensor.
all for this guy...it lets the rear trans be in neutral with the 3800 off while driving down the road, keeps you from frying clutches (used alot in RV/flat towing fwd cars) also note the high temp reflective thermal mat by CoolTec...the pump and checkvalve manifold have since been mounted and plumbed and look f&c%in sexy....
right side of the alum radiator
and since i put off any major pics of the 442...a few of the sexy hand made sheetmetal panels, no fiberglass anywhere on the car...
the Aeromotive 450 lb/hr high pressure pump, y splitter, and return line T
the right side...we havent figured out whether we want to cover these panels with the thermal mat...maybe just near the turbocharger...
newly painted VC and SI 3800 cover in HHO colors..
And the cool shit...
a 2001 GP GT L36 PCM and Harness from the seats forward....ALL OF IT!
this harness and pcm will be going into the front of the 442 with the 98 3800 SII that we will be dropping in once i'm done with my rebuild...
liberated it from the vehicle in just under two hours...none too gently...i got two injuries...
Al was alot more violent and bled all over the GP ...this is like 1/3rd of his battlescars...
believe it or not steel, gas, supplies and the new parts only brings the twin engine conversion cost to 4000$ so far....
this car is gonna be sooo much fun with two 300-400Hp engines, cant imagin two 500Hp beasts
just finished washing all the dust and grinding crap off of 'er and did a bunch of polishing, so more pics to come with the Tq star rims on it...
BTW we missed driving the 442! need to get that rear throttle cable finished...it's no fun with just one engine
Regards, James and Al

Hi Turbocharged400sbc, all,
Good to see you're still with us.
Quote: ........ one electric sender oil pressure, and one electric sender coolant temp ........ I prefer mechanical for oil and temp, electric for fuel level and pressure. Haven't decided about amp/volt meters yet. Quote: ........ AN6 fittings and line for the dual fuel returns into one for the fuel cell ........ Steel lines would make it look like a "factory" install. Quote: ........ BTW thats 120$ in just the braided hose and fittings ....... Vs about 60¢ a foot for ⅜" hard line? 30¢ without fittings. Quote: ........ hand made sheetmetal panels ........ Cool. Just the way I would have done it. Quote: ........ i got two injuries ........ this is like 1/3rd of his battlescars ........ You're both lightweights. Well, OK. I have, been collecting scars for a year or two longer than you have. Quote: ........ 4000$ so far ........
I think you're wasting quite a bit of money on all that "show" stuff.
Keep it coming,
Norm

Hi Norm, all,

Could you explain the difference between a mechanical ammeter and an electric one?

Haven't decided about amp/volt meters yet. lol mechanical amp/voltmeter lol with the front and rear drivetrains being made to drop out, wiring is easier than an ether or oil tube, and less likely to rupture and cause issues 88 Coupe wrote: Quote: ........ Steel lines would make it look like a "factory" install. true, and yes we did run alot of hardline (brakes, trans cooler lines and the front pressure/return lines (alum 3/8's there) 88 Coupe wrote: Quote: ........ Vs about 60¢ a foot for ⅜" hard line? 30¢ without fittings. unfortunatly they dont make y junctions for hardlines, so we needed at least the magnaflow splitter, that and the bulkheads in the fuel cell and the fittings on the pump are all in AN 37* fittings 88 Coupe wrote: Quote: ........ hand made sheetmetal panels ........ Cool. Just the way I would have done it. yup all steel, takes forever but well worth it in the end 88 Coupe wrote: Quote: ........ i got two injuries ........ this is like 1/3rd of his battlescars ........ I have, been collecting scars for a year or two longer than you have. you shoulda seen how much blood Al left behind, i'm sure you would win in a scar contest since my plasma burn has healed with no scaring to speak of... 88 Coupe wrote: Quote: ........ 4000$ so far ........ Keep it coming, Norm yeah maybe we are but at least the engine compartment that counts still looks completly stock... i can tell ya this that CoolTec thermal mat wasnt cheap but sure is worth it if it help keep some of that heat out of the cabin, now maybe with the windows up and the air blasting interior temps will be below 80* lol andrewk wrote: Hi Norm, all, 88Coupe wrote: Haven't decided about amp/volt meters yet. the mechanical requires that you move the needle...lol
more to come, especially if the front SII 3800 comes together fairly quick...
James

I guess I thought Norm would 'jump' on this one... He must have been joking.

Andrewk, maybe he meant old style analog/needle volt meter, vs electronic volt meter? If not, I've never seen a mechanical meter before, and would definately like to see at least a picture of one!
