most of the time it means that a bulb is out but if it does it for both left and right then you should replace you flasher module-the hazards use a different flasher that is designed to handle the load of all four bulbs versus opnly the two for a turn signal so you will want to be sure that you are replacing the turn signal flasher with the correct one or it will flash way to fast or way to slow
most flashers are either on the fuse box (some are on the back of it) or clipped to the steering column support above your knee guard under the drivers side of the dash.
Hope that i could be of some help

from the factory you have a thermal one. but if you have switched to LED lights or adding extra light to the circuit (like hauling a trailer and powering it's lights the extra current draw will cause the thermal (it's a bimetal switch) to flash faster, where with LED (light emitting diods) they draw much less current and prob wouldnt flash at all with the thermal unit. the electric one will flash at a timed interval no matter what load is on it, which means that if one of your turn signals burn out it will keep flashing where the thermal will stop flashing and alert you to a burned out bulb.
IMO stick with the thermal unit unless you have modified the factory lights-besides the thermals are cheaper!
BTW 2 of my vehicle aree all LED lights (cept the headlamps) and i have the electronic flashers (mine are strobing flashers like the DOT construction trucks-helps people see them better and git outta my way LOL)

What makes it turn off is the turn signal cancel cam inside the steering column under the steering wheel most of the time the plastic arm snaps off because of rough handling/old age like slapping it to turn it on or off-you wont belive how violent i have seen people handle thair turn signal stalks. to fix will require a new cancel cam assmbly or on newer vehicles you have to buy the whole combination switch assembly (it's called the combination switch because usually the cruise controls are on it also of the wiper controls etc.) it's fairly expensive so dont be surprized if it's over 100 bucks (makes ya want to use kid gloves huh?) i have replaced some that cost over 200 bucks and you can only get from the dealer. to replace it you will have to disable the airbag (if equipped-it is painful if it deployes while working on it-not to mention cost allot to replace) remove the steering wheel (puller needed) and then the lock plate compressed and that damn PITAss snapring removed then remove the lockplate/horn disc then you can see the turn signal/combination switch-now dep on whether you have a tilt wheel (more of a PITA) or not (not so bad but prepare to curse) you can replace it fairly easily just dont loos any screws (rec magnetic screwdriver) and of course IROR (installation is reverse of removal)
have fun! dont forget that the steering wheel HAS to be put back on in the same place/position!

i c. Well on the turn signal arm is also the cruise control qnd the wipers, but thats it. No air bags, just a horn. and its a 1990. So do you think I would be able to fix it myself?
Would this be it?

you could be able to do it yourself if you can at least rent the puller and lockplate removal tool from say autozone etc. what you linked to was the cam/horn plate that the horn wiring slides on for the horn circuit. what is probably broken on yours is the arm on the turn signal lever base that gets "kicked" by those bumps on the cam piece, as you straighten the steering wheel after the turn to cancel the turn signal, so you will be looking for the combination switch/turn signal switch assembly itself most of the time you can get it without the stalk (the turn signal lever with the wiper/CC on it) and transfer that piece to the new turn signal switch assmbly. on that year i wouldnt doubt that MotorMite makes the turn signal switch assembly but if not try the dealer, you might want to go ahead and pull the steering wheel off and the lock plate to make sure that it is the switch assembly that snapped one of it's cancel arms then order the right part as if it's not some places wont give you a full return/refund if it's a special order part.
make sure whether it's a tilt wheel or not as sometimes this means a different switch.
hope i could help more but im out here in Cali (SanDiego) and wont get home to IL till mid Dec (HangoverPark/Schaumburg) then i'd say bring a sixpack and i'll use my tools!
