Changed oil on the intrigue...

I changed the oil on the 99 Intrigue today, it was a little different than the 3.8s i have changed, as this has the internal filter. I had bought a pair of channel locks to use to take it off...but those didn't work.

So, I searched around the shop, looking for something to use and ran across this: http://www.autopart.com/TOOLS/TOOLSMAIN/tool/T_A250.htm

CTA Tools A250 Oil Filter Wrench....guess what? Worked perfectly! :lol:

So if you're going to change the oil on a 3.5L intrigue or aurora, I highly recommend getting that.

I've got one of those for my parents '93 pontiac transsport, with the 3.8. That engine is a bitch to change oil on.

I have got to say that my 88 olds is the EASIEST car I've ever owned to change oil on. Crank the wheels, reach in a undo the filter with your hands... Man they were thinking when they designed that one.

Yea...the delta 88 has it right above the frame there though...kinda hard to twist it. I guess my easiest would be this car! :lol:

Everything is located at the oil pan.

I have one of those cap type wrenches and never use it. I prefer my hands if possible or as a second choice I will use a strap wrench. I have a lot of old pieces of leather from a Tandy Leather store that closed out and a strap of leater makes a great wrench in most tight spots as long as you can extend the strap and pull. Of course you have to clean the outside of the filter first.

Yea, I have those wrenches...even tried channel locks, it's too tight quarters, and it's torqued down to 18 ft lbs. Given the space, it's impossible to take off with your hands. Cap Wrench is the only option on this vehicle :yes:

you know, a skill such as telekinesis would be a valuable one in the mechanical industry... Just stare at the bolt and it comes out... :-)
