I need your help again. The oil pressure sending unit on my
'73 delta 88 has started to leak (350, 2bl).
A few questions: special socket required? sealant on threads?
lbs. torque?
Most important question, is this indicative of a more serious problem?

There is a special socket made for it, but a 1" deep socket, or wrench will work as will an adjustable wrench.

Sealant is not needed but makes the less experienced feel more confident.
Someone else can probably come up with a torque number. This is not a good medium to try to define what "feels right".



Not if a new sending unit stops the leak.

Edit: Teflon tape if you feel the need.

as soon as I saw this question I pulled that manual out and looked... but didn't see any mention of a torque spec. for that sender. Norm said it when he said that this is not a good way to describe what "feels right" but use your judgement... tight enough so it doesn't fall out or leak, but not so tight that you strip the threads. If there are threads exposed on the one that's in there now, count how many are showing. That will at least give you something to go by.

I don't have a torque spec. but I DO have a very nice diagnostic chart for if you're having problems with the oil indicator light! maybe I'll scan that later.

73 delta 88, I could not find any info. in my manual either
hence my original questions.
I just went on the autozone.com website and to my surprise
I found instructions on the removal and installation of an
oil pressure sending unit specific to a '73, 350 and it says to torque it to 23 ft. lbs. Does that make sense to everyone?
I'm sure I am making way to much out of this but I'm trying to learn more about all of this stuff.

23 sounds like it should work. Do you have the big 4" thick Chassis service manual?

yes it is the '73 chassis service manual, it seems like it's 4 inches thick
but it actually only two inches. it is the manual that includes info. on all
the '73 models, is it the same one that you have?

I found mine in the cellar at a local Olds dealer where I worked for a summer. They didn't even know it was down there, so they just let me have it. I've also seen them on Ebay

It says only 10 ft. lb. on oil pressure sender for an 85 delta 88, but that's with the 307. :?

307 should be the same as all 260 to 455 Olds V8s.
Anywhere between 10 and 20 should be good.
