i just took off my edelbrock air cleaner to replace it with the stock one because i realized how much my 307 likes EGR and i wanted my service engine light to go out... so i put the stock one back on and the service engine light is still on... im not sure if i hooked up the vacuum lines that go to that little sensor inside the air cleaner right.. or if the sensor is bad.. its possible the air cleaner got a little wet from sitting in my basement for so long. any feedback much appreciated

scratch that i got the vacuum lines right  .. but the service engine light is still on... to my knowledge it came on because i swapped air cleaners. but now the stock one is back on (it idles alot nicer and stopped pinging like it did with the edelbrock) but the service lights still on... im thinking that little sensor thing in the air cleaner (thermostat perhaps?) is shot from water damage.. what is this thing called? and how much would a new one set me back? im in a jam here :?:

I assume you run TBI? I didnt have the electronic systems control on my 1984 305, and obvisouly you do.

I would read the code from the computer, it will tell you what sensor, or the reason it beleives you should service you engine soon. :-) That will give you insight as to your next course of action.

I went to napa today to get a new air cleaner temp sensor, first they looked at me like i was crazy... then they gave me a random sensor that was not what i was looking for and tried charging me $45.00, i laughed at them and bought some carb cleaner instead... took the air cleaner apart, inspected the air cleaner temp sensor and saw it was pretty nasty looking, cleaned it with a little bit of carb cleaner, put it all back together, car started up and the service light went out... idle sounds alot more healthy, and the cold air i put on feels more effective too
good thing i diddnt bring it to a garage
