It's been a while....but I've been bitten with the bug again. This project is off and on for quite some time now. It's time to put it back together. I've had the camshaft and crankshaft installed for a while now, brass freeze plugs, the pistons are assembled (machine shop took care of that, press-fit pins)...I was going to install them last night, but found out I was shorted on rod bearings, they only sent me enough for 5 pistons. So I am waiting for those, NAPA will have them in on Monday. I installed the timing components and got the timing cover/water pump installed. That's all for now....more to come. TOC Admin Brando

More done today and yesterday... Got the heads and intake manifold installed. Then I decided to have a little fun. I had originally thought of polishing the entire intake manifold...but after realizing how long that would take, I decided to go with this to spruce it up a little bit... Masked the V6 emblem off and sanded the top with 150-240-320-400 grit. This is after polishing with brown tripoli... This is after polishing with white tripoli... The results... TOC Admin Brando

TOC Admin Brando Nice... doesn't that car have a history in your family? My 73 is my first car, and although I've had others in between I've held onto this car, partially because I've put so much time and money into it that I'd never get it back if I sold it... but mostly because it's a family heirloom of sorts, it was my grandfather's last new car before he died at a somewhat young age. I was born after he died so I never met him but I know he always took pride in his cars. He was a hands on kinda guy and was very meticulous with his stuff. I still have many of his tools, which I've used to work on his old car. Lastly I've kept it because... I like it! I've changed a little here and there to make it my own but it's still mostly the same car it was in 1973. So I got off topic there but the moral of the story is... keep your old car and put that nice fresh engine in it! haha

Yep, was purchased brand new off the lot by my grandpa in '87. He was the original Oldsmobile man of the family, up until the end where my uncles made him replace his 95 silhouette with a brand new (at the time) 02 chevy venture (which he hated). Anyways, the 87 delta 88 was bought by my mom, a few years after my grandpa bought it. Lots of rides to friend's houses, elementary school, and happy meals. Then it was given to me to drive during high school, at which time things decided to fall apart...giving experience along the way. Yea, the car has a lot of history, most of which I remember....but I was born in '87, so I don't remember it all... TOC Admin Brando
