I have a 3.8l nonsupercharged motor that is having an issue with start up when motor hot, also feels like it's running out of gas while driving when hot outside. I thought I was pulling the fuel pump was told it should be inside tank.
I pulled a pump from behind the passenger rear tire with part number 22152835 158 96A. It looks to have a small compressor (cyclinder type head), has 2 outlets/inlets for rubber hoses and a electral connection. Any ideas? thanks, oh yeah, the motor was replaced with a gm goodwrench longblock years ago.

you likely pulled the air compressor for air shocks?

The fuel pump will definately be inside the gas tank. You have to empty the tank of fuel, drop the tank down and then you can gain access to the fuel pump.

Have you done a fuel line pressure test to verify the pump is bad? Its a lot of work to change a pump, if thats not the real problem ;-) (i would know this!)

Yeah, i had the pressure checked before the car died and replaced the fuel pressure reg, and that didn't help and now the car would start at all, so may have to pull the tank. Still can't find that part though... thanks...

I'm confused. Is the hot motor start in any way related to the fuel issue? If not, does it just crank really slow and sometimes not at all? If so, time for a new starter. Typical GM, they like to stick starters right next to the exhaust manifold and it cooks them. If the hot motor start is related to the fuel issue, ignore my post.
