Hey All,

My Low Coolant light has been on since I bought this car a couple of months ago. Every week I check the coolant in the overflow and in the radiator and they are always ok. So my next thought is pooched sensor, frayed wires or disconnected sensor cables (hey, I've seen it!).

Where is the sensor located that determines the low coolant?

Thanx

Cant say for sure, but it should be in the radiator. At least thats where mine is. It has to be somewhere where the lack of coolant should be cause for alarm, so the radiator is the only logical choice.

Excellent Picture Brando - can't get any easier than that.

I cleaned it using some connector cleaner - will see if it fixes the problem tonite - taking the car for a spin later. Cable and connector look in good shape.

Is the sensor actually removable? It doesn't look like it? If it is pooched then this may get expensive with a new rad and all...

Well, was off for the first 10 minutes of driving then came back on. Probably when thermostat opened and flow went through the rad. Interestingly it went off a couple of times when driving but always came back on within a minute.

Anyone know if that sensor is removable/replaceable? It didn't look like it.

I'm going to pull the connector tomorrow and see if I can cross connect the pins to see if the light goes off. That would tell me that the circuit is working and is likely the sensor then.

Should have two clips on it where it locks into the radiator. Does this have the series 2 3800?

Ok, I found the 2 clips and was wondering how to undo them as its hard to get into that area when I realized I don't care if I wreck the old clips. Broke them off and removed the sensor - put the new one in and still get the Low coolant indicator on - hmmm. The old sensor was definitely wrecked, it was one big guey mess where the sensor should be so this should have fixed it. Maybe I need to reset the EMC - will do that tommorrow.

Buggboy - It's a series 1 L27.

Hi 88Delta88,

There is only 1 way to put it in.

I just unplugged the sensor and will have to play with it when it gets warmer. Unplugging it turns off the warning on the dash. I'm just checking the fluid regularly using the 'manual' method <g>

Thank You
