My car is haunted. Its doing things I've never seen cars do.

RPM when idle, HIGH, not sure how high since my tach aint working, but you can hear it racing 2500-3000rpm range. And when I pop it in gear its when it gets crazy. When I pop it in reverse the whole car just YANKS, and you hear a big thub when it goes into gear, and its got so much kick, the tire starts spinning in reverse!! Then pop it in Drive, BAM, another big yank. If I'm standing on dry road nothing special. But when I'm on something wet or some snow, even thought I'm not touching the gas pedal, the tire is spinning. And the gas pedal ain't sticking, always comes back to me.

Should I get a mechanic or a priest?

LOL-

Whats probably happening, is that the idle of the car is well over the stall of the torque converter, and when you put it into gear, the converter is already engaged, leading to a decided clunk. This is hard on all your engine/trans mounts, as well as the converter and rear end/u-joints. I would venture to guess that turning down the idle would fix your problem.

Not haunted. The carb has problem(s). Looks to me like you would rather drive it, than fix it.

Your choice.

I'm taking it to a shop that will look at it, this didn't get me nowhere.
