Got in my car today...well, yesterday now...anyways...
Opened the door, sat down....rear view mirror was hanging from the wires...
Must have been the recent heat we had and the whole black cars absorb the most heat that did it...
So what do you do in this situation? I'm so lost without it, I use my mirrors a lot...
Browsed around the internet, looks like NAPA carries a rear view mirror adhesive kit, a two part epoxy. Probably the same thing as the JB-WELD Mirror Weld that I've seen, just repackaged by NAPA.
My current plan is to have someone hold the rear view mirror in place, while I trace around it with washable marker on the outside of the window. Then I guess I'll remove the old adhesive tab that's stuck on the windshield....doesn't appear to be anything stuck on the rear view mirror itself. Must not of primed/cleaned it very well before they stuck it on from the factory. Then simply follow the directions on the packaging...
Never had this happen before.....must of been my system, all that bass made it rattle off....lmao...

There should be a tab that comes off of that... My lumina uses a t-20 torx to remove the 'button'. If there is still an adhesive residue on the windshield, you can use that to trace around too.
Hope this helps,
Andrew

It was located on the back side of the mirror mount, by where the ball joint for adjustment is.
It may be different, as my car is alot older than yours. I would check to see if that is just a fascia that is there to make the mirror mount area look good, and to hide the wires though.

yea....it is just a plastic cover, to hide the compass and such....
I removed it anyways, and it looks like one piece....no torx screw there.
I'm not sure what to do...might just end up bringing it to a shop....

Didn't think to check my print service manuals....of course they talk about it....
Says the support just pops out with a flat blade tool....aka a screwdriver...not sure how, just says to use a flat blade tool, so must not be too hard...

Using my fiber optic attachment on my maglite....I can see underneath the support tab, the tab itself is attached to a spring clip, I need to use a small screwdriver that fits inbetween the clip and press up on it to slide it out....so far my screwdrivers keep bending....

OK...
First of all, here are the tools I used:
Clamping Work Table - sure am lucky to have this thing...wouldn't have been able to do it without it I don't think...without breaking or seriously messing up the mirror anyways.
2 Large Flathead Screwdrivers - one is used in a turn motion to push the support tab out, the other is used to press down on the spring clip, so the tab can slide out.
Here is a picture with the plastic cover removed, and you can see the compass sensor dangling from the wires.
You'll need two people for this operation...if you can do it by yourself, you are very talented. First you want to clamp it in your wooden clamping table so that you have only the support part of the mirror sticking up....if you don't have one of these tables, get one...
One person pushes down on the spring clip, where the red is pointing, with a large flathead screwdriver. The other person turns a large flathead screwdriver in between the area where the blue is pointing to push the tab out. Once the spring clip is pushed down enough, the tab can be pushed over those two little bumps you see in the picture, located on the spring clip.
Here is a picture of the support tab finally removed, and the mirror is still in one piece. Now to screw the plastic parts back on (compass sensor), you'll want to remove these when working on it....so you don't break them. Installation should be just pressing the mirror against the tab and sliding it on....hopefully.
Making a trip to NAPA tomorrow to buy the adhesive kit...
