So I was driving my mom's 98 intrigue home, hit one of several bumps on the highway, and the Service Vehicle Soon, Anti-Lock, and Trac Off lights go on.
Well, this was great, seeing as how it had just snowed and I got a little fish tail action in on the highway off ramp, kept her in control though....otherwise I probably wouldn't be typing this...
Ok, so as soon as I pulled in the driveway, I read the codes.
The current code was C1226, which is RF Excess Wheel Speed Variation.
In the history, C1233 showed up, which the scanner told me was RF Wheel Speed Sensor Circuit Open/Shorted.
I cleared the codes, the lights went off, and I could hear what sounded like the ABS engaging. Drove it a little bit and all seems well. Was it just a fluke? Perhaps the connector is loose?
Don't have time to check right now, but just looking for ideas.

Replaced the front right wheel bearing today, seems to have solved the problem. Went over several bumps returning the hub puller to Murray's, no lights came on and no codes set.
I started replacing the wheel bearing assembly yesterday, we were given the choice of a china or usa made wheel bearing at NAPA, my mom chose the china made one....I was in disagreement but said nothing, it was almost half the price after all.
I've done a few wheel bearings....that's an understatement...
Couldn't get that cheap p.o.s. to slide on to the axle splines. Went back to NAPA this morning to return the bearing as a defect, and got the USA made one (paid the difference).
Went on like butter....no problems at all.
So let that be a lesson, buy your parts USA made if you can.

Been there, done that.
Put new bearings, from my local parts supplier, on two of my 57-64 Olds rear axles. Left side started grinding after less than 300 miles and 25, or so, 11 second passes. Replaced it, and that one lasted the 40 freeway miles to the strip, then took the axle with it on the 3rd pass.
Not often, a driver sees his 10" tire, and part of the axle, thru his side view mirror.
Found out from Tom at Tom's Diffs that, although they were marketed by a well known American manufacturer, they were not made in USA.

just kidding, i hope its not a crapola, thier interior dash is nothing to write home about. aside from the really good gas mileage i see other vehicles in its class being far superior. still tho those cars wouldn't be american. Mazda is sorta american, what with ford owning a portion of it, and the new lancer was partial developed when dcx own a portion of them as well. BTW my dads sorta a trader too, he drives a 2003 Pontiac vibe gt. (damn jap lover)

My next daily driver will probably be an import. Good gas mileage, great reliability, and long life. Wish we could figure that out.
One of the reasons I drive a Japanese motorcycle too...

No, Camry. It's very well built and comfortable and cost less then 18K. The Corollas are nice too. Besides the fact that it was assembled here in America by American's, putting food on an Americans plate as well. I don't see why people have to bash them so much. I can get over 40MPG on the highway, AC blasting.

The statements referred to offshore replacement parts, not to any of the auto manufacturers. There is nothing wrong with the quality of Japanese or German made cars, including those that are built in the US. Arguably, across the board, they are better designed and engineered, than American cars. But, that would be another topic. andrewk wrote: ........ thats about as funny as AIDS Not funny (to normal people) but not serious when it happens in a controlled racing environment. With few possible exceptions, a comment that does not belong in any discussion.

Sorry everyone if i hurt your feelings...
thought this was an american car company forum...
I will however keep my thoughts to myself, because not everyone will apperciate my humor and input, regardless of technical know how.
On a side note, i do love all cars, Im patriotic, and regardless where some of a foreign car companys cars are made, they are still foriegn cars i.e. design, tech, engine, parts etc. I want to see our domestic auto sector flourish once again. Toyota honda mazda and nissan and soon to be mitsu all will have extremelly credible small cars, which overshadow even the best american cars. Do i drive a compact? No, so does that make gm, ford, and chrysler not good competitive car companys, kinda. But we will see. Im a die hard GM FAN so get use to it!
Personally, I've not had a problem with my Intrigues ABS. Itl can be loud when it engages, tho i dont know why people would ever think it'd be soft. Your in a panic situation if your abs go on right? (maybe your doing donuts?)
Brando-
do intrigues wheel bearings need to be replaced at a specific interval?
and finally everyone get a sense of humor, it makes life so much more pleasent!

And learn to use it at appropriate times.

If you mean by mileage...not really. Just whenever they start making noise or the sensors stop working correctly, since they are built into the wheel bearing assembly.

Thanks for that info Brando.
Norm-
a crapola is a corolla. The Auris will be a thousand times better can't wait for that car to show in the states tho they ripped off the exterior of a ford, namely the mercury milan. http://www.motortrend.com/features/auto ... a_corolla/
