Okay, so my car sounds pretty bad right now. First of all, it has been whining for some reason, it sounds like it is coming from the transmission, but it also whines in neutral when I rev it up...
On top of this, my AC compressor or something related to the AC is making a crappy noise, not exacly doing the crazy loud whine or scream, but its kind of knocking and whining a little. When i turn the AC on, the knocking goes away and im only left with a little bit of a whine. I just replaced the water pump, so im pretty sure thats not the whine, and the power steering feels good, so i doubt that is the issue.
Should i replace the AC compressor?
Thanks in advance,
Ross Love

For the a/c its prolly a bad condenser, roll down the windows if your cheap, get it checked before you buy a new one just in case as they are not the cheapest things ever. The whining noise could still be your power steering even if it feels fine. Try turning your wheels all the way right and left while in drive to see if it gets worse. Also check your pulleys to see if they are oiled, if not they could have a belt slip and tear it up making it not possible to move, or even steer depending on what happens. Check these and let me know.

Im actually thinking about replacing the condenser with a bypass pulley like this:
http://www.1aauto.com/1A/ACBypassPulley ... 34/1089270
A new AC unit is $209 and this is only $45, and i never use the AC anyways. If I sell the car, ill just say the AC needs a recharge
Maybe ill grab a used power steering pump from the junk yard to see if that stops the whining too. Has anyone on here replaced any of these two things? AC condenser or PS pump? Does it entail anything more then just taking off the serp belt and switching them out?
Thanks

too late i found a new compressor and installed it yesterday, sucked so badly though in the aurora because you have to do everything out the wheel well and I have big hands which sucked ass too and it was very time consuming just trying to get the bolts back on the bottom of the compressor. Gl on the pulley though

What kind of respectable "Olds" owner would lie to a person he's selling his Olds to? So dont "just say" anything if you know better. Thats what people do to sell those other kinds of cars so that they can go buy themselves an Oldsmobile. We, (who have the cars people want most),are also showing that we as people are equally as distinct and have class.
Olds' owners are in a class all their own. "High...", "First...", "The Best...". This must be passed on to the next generation,(since the cutlass is among others, very popular amoung teens these days). Pass down the pride of owning a Oldsmobile ride.

(nancy67carrick), I agree. I'm having problems with the A/C in my Delta 88 (the vacuum relay needs replacing), and even though the car is a pile of rust, I still love it. Even though I'm hurting for money, I'd never sell it while insinuating that there is less wrong with the car than there actually is. That makes you look like an inconsiderate Human being, and is something that sleazy salesmen do - not good, hardworking people. They're usually the ones on the ass-end of the deal.
While we're on the topic of A/C, I thought I'd ask if anyone knows where I can find vacuum relays nowadays? I only ask because my Dad ordered me one from OE Warehouse, and they sent us the wrong part and refuse to exchange/refund.
Does anyone need an electrical relay? -insert nervous giggle here-
