Bought with the parking brake useless. It is jammed all the way in, the release does nothing. No break light is lit when car started. Brakes work fine. But I don't like not having a parking brake.

A factory manual is enroute (snail mail). Meanwhile, I wouldn't mind buying the part needed to repair when the manual arrives. I saw somewhere (4 forums for this car?!) someone's parking brake ratchets were wore down. If this is the case, is a new pedal on my shopping list?

Or is this a case, where hubby (the mechanic) would need to tear things apart to see what is going on?

I'll go post in the introduction thread now.

The parking brake cables tend to rust out and bind. The no brake light is normal, since the parking brake lever is depressed.
Factory service manual is a very good idea, have a set for all of my cars.

Turns out the pedal is stuck up position. Can't press it down.
It had been years since I had this style and couldn't tell it was up!

I'm wrong again. Hubby WD-40, cleaned and the brake goes down but no ratcheting. It will hold if you want to sit pressing it. I found the parking brake assembly on gmpartsgiant. Local dealer said it could be found, put did give me the part number.
