(sorry Hans lol) if you get ~2500 you may want to just swap in an L67, 4t65HD, harness and PCM, go to 3800pro.com and look up Morad parts (Ed Morad) for whole assemblies...everything
yeah series II L67 drop the cheapest way.
You can get that car into the 12s very easily considering how light your car is, however 13s would be achievable if you can find the drivetrain for under a grand (easy to come by, lots of GTPs, SSEis, PA ultras out there)
You will have to get some custom fabricated parts and wiring work to make everything work, but thats part of the fun eh?
Easily done in your price range.

Just keep the car stock, and do some mods to the engine. You will only get heartache trying for 12s. BTW your car weighs 300 lbs more than mine. It is anything but light.
Go here, it is all they do.

Hi Coldfire, All,
Coldfire wrote: 88 Coupe wrote: A serious gearhead would make it "rear drive" ........ Any idea how to do that? ........ A serious gearhead would not have to ask. How, would depend on your skill/experience level and the actual configuration you desire. Coldfire wrote: ........ Like a list of parts etc ........
Choose your own rear drive related parts from a salvage yard. I sometimes buy a donor car for my projects. Material related to the fabrication portion, is available at your local metal supllier.
If you need someone to build a chassis for you, I can't help.
Regards, Norm

put the front engine in the back...and make the front your trunk...
kinda a fiero-esque alero
or just put another engine in the back...with the cost of gas nowadays...Al loves the fact he can still get 20 mpg highway on just the front engine...and can run 13's with both....
not to mention if he breaks either one he can still drive home...

Again, use anything but the rag top. Worth a lot more money stock.
Or sell it to me.
Little paint, (Red and Black of course),drop in my other LQ1, few tricks.
Cruiser and a bruiser! Yep! That's what I'm talkin' about! Twins...
Seriously, for 2600 bux? No way you can get a fat ass W-Body into 12s.
Been there, got the T-shirt. Says ....."no"
I am prepared to back up my point.

Of course I'm not 14 years old with no skill/experience, and I do have a small collection of Chev/Olds engines, transmissions, rear ends, NO2 sets, etc. Thought about the sawzall/smokewrench trick but that would make it less than streetable. Now, I'll remove my tongue from my cheek. 88delta88 wrote: L67 swap? ........
Did the $2600 to use a blown 3800 in place of his 3100, include the labor costs involved?

With tongue firmly back in cheek.
RednBlackCutlass wrote: OK, show me how. I'm curious ........ BBC/TH400/12 bolt. I use them as an example, because they are ready to go, and aren't doing anything right now. Now, I'll remove my tongue, again. RednBlackCutlass wrote: ........ I stand by saying keep the Rag-Top stock.

woah....never thought i'd hear you have a mystery motor (please tell me it's a 409...that would be sweet.... )
455 and toronado transaxle in the back...
ditch the trunk...
then again a permanent convertible might be inconvenient with mother nature the way she is....

Turbocharged400sbc wrote: ........ please tell me it's a 409 ........ First time I've ever heard of the 348, 409, and 427 "W" engines referred to as BB. Seems, the older I get, the more the internet changes history. 454 crate engine, std bore, no cylinder wear. First owner wiped out the crank, put in a crank kit, and sold it. Second owner wiped out the crank and sold it to the third owner for a price I couldn't refuse. I reground the crank, checked the balance, assembled it with new bearings, gaskets, and seals. Then the Important part. Replaced the Mk IV oil filter with the right one for the Mk V engine. Oiling problem solved. It's not doing anything now because it's a backup for two of my Chevs or for my Coupes, if needed. Turbocharged400sbc wrote: ........ 455 and toronado transaxle in the back ........ Notwithstanding, the Toro final drive gear problem, I would be using parts I already have, and the purchase of a Toro transaxle was not included in my $2600 estimate. I'm more familiar with front engine, rear drive suspensions anyway. Pictured, is the owner of the Speed Shop I use. Near stock 305 ran 10.164 at the 2004 NHRA Winternationals, in Pomona, CA. I only posted it to illustrate my philosophy regarding the OPs original question. To me, convertibles have always been and will continue to be p**sy wagons, not performance cars.
I hope I'm persuading Fleeingpepper to leave his like it is.
