I currently own a 91 olds toronado trofeo with the 3.8L engine and my air box for my intake is busted and everywhere I go, they tell me they can't order it or get it from a junk yard. There are two sensors that are connected to the intake. One of them is connected to the air box and the other sensor is connected to the throttle body. I was wondering if removing the box and censor thats connected to the box, and replacing it with a cone filter will cause the engine light to come on, or even mess up the computer. If anyone can help thanks!

the sensor in the air box is a temperature sensor, which you can swap out with a resistor to trick the computer, or screw the sensor into a cone shaped filter. The sensor on the throttle body is your mass airflow sensor, which you must leave in tact for the computer to register the proper amount of airflow.

Cold air intakes have been done quite often on cars like yours.

Ok, I did my research on the internet and each different engine requires a different OHM Resistor. I know you need a 1/2 watt 5% tolearance resistor, but how many OHM? I have read anywhere from 1K to 2.2K, do you know exactly what I should use? Thanks
