A weak trans (if there is such a thing) would need to be changed, regardless which engine was used.

The point of the question was to decide if he was willing to replace the transmission also, because the subject of the thread is just the motor. I wasn't looking for a specific reply. If he wants to keep his current one, certain motors will not work well with it, and that will affect our suggestions.

That's what I meant. Not "Are you gonna use a Turbo 400 or a Turbo 350?"

You got a problem answering a couple of simple questions?

I'm trying to keep the confusion to a minimum. If you want to discuss it further, either PM me or, start a new thread.

Hi Norm, all,

Sorry, continuing the hijack...

That's the point. Not everyone has tons of knowledge. 99jordan has admitted this. Throwing out "455 big block" may confuse 99jordan if 99jordan has no clue about the different Olds engines. (Maybe 99jordan does, but I cant say that for sure) The post wasn't productive to the conversation and you got called out on the carpet for it. Big deal. Again, here's the point: Not everyone here is a genius. Get it now?

first the engine does have a leak..and probaly not in the best condition...but i dont want it to die before i start the renovations to it...of course rebuilding is inexpensive but is ti reliable....i dont mind the noise inside as long as it has get up and long lasting.....if eiter of u guys had a delta 88 royale and wanted to upgrade what would u do??? of course there alot of cosmetic things possible but that wont make the engine last longer...i want that restored look on the outside but something like a beast on the inside......thank u all for your info...

If it were me, I would build a nice mild 350 olds for it. Parts will be somewhat cheaper (plus you will have more options) than building a 307, you will have more power, and it will still take all the computer stuff. As an alternative, you could put EFI on it, and have a really unique, reliable, semi-powerul, and somewhat efficent daily driver.

If you want a 'monster', you can go with a big block, but I personally would do a 350 with taller gears in the rear. That will help accelleration, and feel like an extra 100 horsepower.

A properly rebuilt engine is just as, if not more reliable than the original. You can use better quality components, and do a more thorough job then the factory could have.

Hope this helps,

Andrew

OK. What about gas mileage? How much are you willing to trade?

OK. Thats more than we had before.

It would still depend on several factors. Biggest is, I am not you. Am I working with a 3 or 4 speed trans? What does the car weigh?

I'd think long and hard about what I might want to give up in exchange for any power gains. I would not want to shoot myself in the foot, by adding any mods i couldn't live with and couldn't reverse.

Right now, I'm inclined toward blueprinting the 307 along with tweaking the rear gears, and enjoying a 25+ MPG Luxury Cruiser.

Might be because I already have two quick street machines and know from experience what has to be traded off for any extra acceleration.

And those same cosmetics won't get you any more power.

Looks are not my department.

Taller = higher. Why?

Hi Norm, all,

I mean like a 3.55 instead of a 2.73. So I mean lower gears. Thanks for helping me to clarify that.
