Assuming you mean Olds, yes, a 455 is a big block.
Now, why did you post a suggestion when you do not even know what his needs are?
Are you aware, that by following your advice, he can expect to lose 40 to 50% of his gas mileage? That can be dealt with, but it will affect his budget. Oh, but we don't know what that budget is, do we?

Hi 99jordan, hello everyone,
Welcome to TOC.
99jordan wrote: ........ i want to upgrade ........ I think your use of the word "upgrade" has caused some confusion. What did you mean by it? nalc wrote: What transmission do you plan to use? ........ Until his goal is defined, a trans choice cannot be made. 99jordan wrote: ........ i drive the car almost everyday, yes i drive a little faster than others. its something i want to have for a long time ........ OK. Reliability and longevity are priorities, and racing is not a factor. 99jordan wrote: ........ i just want to spend under 2500.
OK. We have a budget. Now what (if anything) do you want the car to do different, in exchange for that cash?
Regards, Norm

why not rebuild, or if nothing is wrong, build-up your current engine?

99jordan wrote: ........ i want a fast engine but reliable ......... Now we are talking tradeoffs. More power = Higher maintenance, less reliable, and a shorter life. We need to know how fast you want to go, and how much reliability, driveability, comfort, and gas mileage do you want to give up to do it? Also you need to know that "fast" does not come from the engine alone, but a well planned combination of complimentary mods to the rest of the car. Quote: ........ i dont know what kind of trans or anything The question was not relevant and should not have been asked. 88delta88 wrote: why not rebuild, or if nothing is wrong, build-up your current engine?
Isn't that question the topic of the discussion?

Well, if he has a weak transmission and doesn't want to replace it, that will affect his motor choice.

Norm, I think he wanted to replace the engine, as I read it. He hasnt mentioned anything about what hes currently got.

99jordan wrote: ........ like i said i know little about this. thats 1 of the reasons i joined for some tips ........ It's refreshing to meet someone who is honest about their knowledge level. Communication in this medium can be a major problem, so have patience, do the best you can, and we'll do the best we can. nalc wrote: What transmission do you plan to use? 88 coupe wrote: Until his goal is defined, a trans choice cannot be made. 88 coupe wrote: The question was not relevant and should not have been asked. Well, if he has a weak transmission and doesn't want to replace it, that will affect his motor choice. A weak trans (if there is such a thing) would need to be changed, regardless which engine was used. Your question (as it was asked) only confuses the issue. If you want to discuss it further, either PM me, or start a new thread. 88delta88 wrote: I think he wanted to replace the engine ........ Thread title is "Best Engine to put in 1984 Delta 88 royale?". That may, or may not, be the one that's already in it. 88delta88 wrote: ........ I don't believe he knows. His profile says 307, but that has no bearing on what his "best choice" might be.
Everyone:
Based on the information we have so far, my first choice would cost a minimum of 3x his 2500 budget. We need to narrow it down a bit.

Good, we're getting there.
