Hello everyone,

I'll be changing heads/intake soon and was wondering what kind of numbers it's been making.

The shop just called and verified it's a "go" for tomorrow morning.

Regards, Norm

So, how did it do? What changes were made?

It was a long, but informative day. There were a few problems but we got the job done.

Not many are interested in torque readings at 2500.

Then we did it like everyone else.

Other than the extra 50 thou stroke in May '98, nothing but jets, timing, and a few gear/tire changes since Oct '94 when I glued it together.

I'll post more after I get some sleep.

Norm, torque numbers look great... Its smooth right across the map. Careful planning to achieve that, I bet.

Thanks. Good porting, and a cam profile that matches it.

As much as I'd like to take the credit, I didn't port these heads. Bought them at a swap meet and, in this case, chose the cam for its polite manners on the street, as you can see by the 5500 RPM power peak.

Short block was a "cheapie" rebuild for street use while I corrected a problem (1" by 3" hole in the cylinder wall) with my 11.9 second 468.
Went down to check out the new strip at the LA Harbor. Ran it through, for the hell of it. A little over 2 tenths off the 468. A little playing with jets and timing and it ran the same ET, but at lower speeds.

Norm

Edit: changed 2 seconds to 2 tenths.

Thanks. We learned a lot from the experience.

Thinking about flowing the heads, next.

Did you flow the heads yet? If so, what kind of numbers did you get?

Hi andrewk, all,

Probably won't be doing them real soon. I'll post the #s when I get 'em. Top priority was getting the 437 on the dyno before it got "detuned".

Putting another set on the the 437, and these will get flowed sometime before they go on the 427 that's still in the beginning stages.

Right now, I'm making space in my Garage, for when the '65 Cutlass comes back from the body guy.

No. I'm on a tight budget. Found a body guy that moonlights at home. Stripped all the good stuff off my '64 El Camino and he's taking the body/rolling chassis in trade for his labor/material.

Following is the two bad spots. Taken last April 1st, when we got it home,

Might try doing the paint, myself. We shall see.

I would love doing the bodywork on that.
