i have the stock 260 v8 engine on my 1978 cutlass supreme. and the stock is 2 bbl. carb and manifold. i have looked all over and havent found anything saying that a 4 barrel manifold/carb will work with this engine, do any of you know anything helpful relating to this? ive heard things about adapter plates but how effective is that? all input is appreciated, thanks.

Hi 78supreme,

Welcome to TOC.

Probably because few people would think the gain (if any) will be worth the investment.

With your adapter, you can add a bigger carb. Question is: How do you move more fuel/air mixture through the manifold, without enlarging the inlets/ports?

Regards, Norm

I agree, dont waste money and time on a 260. If you want more horsepower, drop a 350 into it. Parts are plentiful, relatively cheap and easy to work on. It wont be a "numbers" car, so just store the 260 until you want it back in.

It should be understood, that you are not agreeing with me. I said nothing of the sort.

Because a 350 Chev is best for you, why should it be a good choice for him?

Tell us why a 403 would not be better, especially since it is the same engine.

Also tell us why he should bastardize his car, as was done in your case.

If he were asking about an engine change, we would need a lot more information about his desires/preferences/needs before making any recommendations.

Pounder wrote:

Yes. Using both definitions, cheap is the operative word.

No easier than an Olds.

Numbers car? Store it?

What is your problem 88coupe, spent a lot of time picking my last post apart. It was just MY opinion dude! take it or leave it but dont make fun of it. We all have our own rides....OH Im sorry, speaking CLEARLY for myself only I have my ride I have had it for seventeen years I do what I want just like everybody else. And whats with the bastardized car comment....what? let me guess...you are a die hard Oldsmobile fan but forgot it is a division of GM ( uh, that would be General Motors) You want a bastard car then drive a AMC. Want to keep it Oldsmobile....then excuuuuuse me!.....drop 350 Rocket into it. That would be an Oldsmobile engine...just in case you want to pick that apart too. You try dropping seven grand into an engine and call it cheap.

By the way, yea! store it, take the 260 put it on a engine stand, wrap it up until you are ready to learn how to rebuild it if you dont know already. Please tell me ...uh, NORM....that you know what a "numbers" car means. Come on now, from what Im reading you are trying to come across like some bigshot pro, kind of like above me. But that is just a first meeting assumption.
I also have a 1986 Cutlass Supreme 4 door sedan, 305 high output, 200r4....with 160k on it. Its my winter beater, ...(GASP!) why, cause the frames falling out of it. And when its time to put a bullet in it, Im keeping the drive train, clean it up....and store it.

Yea, I got a problem with that, I submit a post and you arrogantly tear it apart. I thought this was a forum to exchange ideas not to criticize others. Obviously I was wrong. You seem to have a problem communicating with others. There was no need to pick an argument but if that is what you want bring it on, DUDE! People who think they know it all, generally know nothing because they never listen, are you hearing me? Now go ahead, dissect each sentence here and reply.

If I think I know what you meant, then it must be true...

Just because you think you know what someone might mean, or what 'tone' they have, doesn't mean that you know what they feel.

Reading some of these replies made my head hurt.

That has been, and will continue to be, my practice.

Good choice.

The word is commonly used, by Olds enthusiasts, when referring to that combination.

Since he has not been able to, maybe you can explain how my opinions and/or my posts can be considered flames. And how his are perfectly acceptable.

And, as I clearly stated, I was clearing up any possible misunderstanding. If you have a problem with that, explain it. If not, bring on the next example.

OK, we have heard from another who resorts to flames because he is not able to discuss his own statement(s).

Here is an example.
