hey raskull, i don't know if you're still looking into exhaust mufflers for your car or not, but if you are i'd say check out my cardomain page.

i have an 88 like yours, 'cept a few years newer. i custom did my exhaust. i cut off my stock muffler and attached a single-in dual-out flowmaster 80 series muffler on there and piped it back to some chrome tips. i think it looks tight...and it sounds really nice and deep too. if you're still looking for muffler ideas, i'd say that mine has to be close to the best that i've seen for our type of car; that's just my own opinion though.

This may be a little late, but on my car, I installed a cutout in between the catalytic converter and the muffler. I really like the deep sound my car's exhaust now makes. Dont really know about high RPM sound or sound on a V6 but I liked the sound on my 307 and have gotten plenty of compliments. Good thing is, If you dont like the sound or get tired of it, you just cover up the cutout and your car is silent again.

First of all, the factory exhaust sucks on the 88, and the LSS. It's single exhaust with a pipe that curves more than a roller-coaster. My buddy had 2 straight pipes put in from the cat going back and put Flowmasters on it. It literally woke up the car! What a difference in performance and take-off.

If you're going to put Flowmaster on, put duals otherwise you're wasting your time and money.

I also have Flowmasters on my Aurora. They aren't made to be loud, but they do have better air flow and a nice rumble too. I noticed a performance increase.

Must be time for the semi-annual resurrection of this thread.

Must be a reason for it. What do you suppose it might be?

Straight pipe = No muffler.
Cat back = Dual outlets = Two "Y" pipes
Duals = No "Y" pipes.

Dual outlet exhaust is a great appearance mod.

Good choice, if one appreciates that "Mustang sound".

Placebo effect, or do you have any actual numbers?

Duals are tricky (therefore expensive) to fabricate/install, which makes dual outlets the OPs only practical choice.

Either way, the routing of half the exhaust through each muffler, is where any "back pressure" might be lost. Along with the pressure loss, one could expect a rise in sound pressure level.

Sorry about reviving this old thread. I didn't notice the date.

It's a Y pipe going out to 2 mufflers yes. My buddy with the LSS started off with one muffler, drove it, then went back for 2.

As far as I know, the factory pipe curves so much to fit around the gas tank, etc.. The pipe straight to the Y, then to the mufflers makes a huge difference!

I didn't dyno my car before I did the exhaust, but I do take my car to the track. My 1/4 mile time with stock exhaust was 16.5 to 16.3. Now it's 16.05 to 15.79. I can't wait to see what my CAI does!

My buddy with the LSS is very happy with the mufflers. They do have better air flow, and aren't loud, but give a nce little rumble.

Wasn't the pipe sized to offset any possible losses caused by those bends?

How did you fit it around the gas tank, etc?

A half second gain from a simple "cat-back" mod.

I am impressed.

He should sign up, and tell us about it.
