Alright, currently, in my Delta 88, I have an old dsiconnected RadioShack alarm (yea, it does a lot of good! ), anywayz, I disconnected it a while ago because it doesn't work to well and it's a very simple alarm (all-in-one units SUCK). So I am looking into getting a different alarm. I found a Crimestopper one that seems pretty nice...
Does anyone else here have an Alarm in their Oldsmobile?
I think I'll get the crimestopper one but I want to hear what you guys got and how it works...
This is the alarm I am looking at...seems pretty nice to me...
I am also looking at battery back up for the alarm, Parts Express used to sell a kit to do it (wires and all), but they stopped selling it...anyone know how to hook one up? It was supposed to trigger the alarm too if the main battery was disconnected....
Here's the battery I was looking at using...

I'm not a believer in car alarms. No one cares about them going off anymore. Personally you should rig your car up with 2 kill switches, one for the ignition (can't hot wire either if the switch is directly connected to the starter) and one for the fuel pump (can't go far with no fuel pressure). Put the switches in 2 different spots. Most thiefs aren't going to go through the trouble finding both switches. Of course if they want you car bad enough they put pull a flatbed up to and and take it that way. If your going to leave your car somewhere in a place you don't trust for a long time, always turn you wheels and lock you e-brake. If someone is going to steal your car, their going to have one hell of a time getting it out of there

I've had alarms in the past... Gotta buy one with keyless entry, or at least one with outputs so you can hook up your own relays. Keyless entry seems so normal after a week, that you wonder how you ever lived without it...
Thats my take on alarms. I usually want them to make lots of noise, and keyless entry. I usually end up hooking the vehicle horn up also with the siren. I had an 84 caprice, and I had a 3-tone air horn in there... With the alarm siren going off, and air horn going at the same time, there was NO way you wouldnt hear that car a mile away.
I agree with psyco though, the only real security is a physically hidden switch that kills your ignition. Good call on the fuel pump switch, I think I'm going to install one on my car now!

I'm wondering though... If I put a kill switch on my fuel pump, chances are, that I'll forget to turn it on every once in a while, and my car will die at the end of my street....
Isnt it bad to run a vehicle out of fuel that has an electric fuel pump? Or is that just if you run the tank dry?

Its bad if you do it a whole bunch of times, as long as you remember you should be alight.I'm sure after the first or second time you do it you will remember to hit the switch

I have recently had a Clifford Concept 400 installed in my delta 88, it has keyless entry and you can hook up the trunk to it and a remote start if your running fuel injected. its great, if the alarm is going off you cant start it if the wire is cut you cant start it you can get sensors that pick up vibrations you can hook computers up to the alarm brain you can get tilt sensors for tow aways and rim robbers the 400 also comes with a proximity sensor. if the door handle is lifted up it will go off its just so great i would go with clifford. i had it installed at an unltimate electronics it took them about 11 hours i was going to do it but i didnt want to get into it with about 80 wires to splice in. the siren is loud i mean LOUD it has 6 tones with you can choose which ones you like. It also have valet mode so it wont auto arm itself. I got my clifford for 80 because it was an open box they retail around 450 from the shelf of about 100 on ebay which isnt bad because you can get other things with it too. they have window break sensors and every thing you can think of i would definately recomend cilfford Generation 4 not 5 because viper recently bought them out and there not as good but if you get a clifford concept 400 500 or 600 you'll be just fine. 8)

alot has to do with what kind of shape your battery is in to start with... A good car battery shouldnt have any problem powering a car alarm for a good 2 or 3 weeks and still be able to start with plenty of juice.
I suppose though, there are many different car alarms, that suck many different amounts of power...
