Hi all,
Was hoping to get some opinions from the guys here that deal with the v6 shyt. On sunday, my alternator in my Lumina crapped out on me. No biggie, I rebuilt it (it fried a diode and threw the regulator) and reinstalled it. Charged the battery, and that works fine. The problem now (and I believe it to be unrelated) is that sometimes when I am sitting a light, it will surge a couple times and die. Starts right back up, and off I go. If I put it in neutral, it wont do it. Also sometimes, it seems to come halfway out of Overdrive on the highway. I am thinking either the converter is crapping out, or the lockout switch is. Any thoughts on this? How can I tell either way? It is a 3.1 with the OD trans. Thanks in advance for any help you guys can give me.

Andrew

When I was having troubles with my transmission, I thought it was the lockup also. I unplugged the lockup wire harness from my transmission, and it operated just fine without it. No code even. I would assume the 3.1 tranny is not TOO different than mine. There is a 4-wire connector on the front drivers side of the trans, basically the only electrical on the trans.

I would think that if you unplugged it and tested the car out, you can safely validate or eliminate your theory without too much troubles. Someone correct me if the 3.1 is different than my 3.8... :-)

I know which switch you are talking about... When I charged my battery, I had to remove the air box, and there was this connector. I thought that it was the Vehicle speed sensor, which I needed to replace anyway... but it is in the right kind of location for a lock up switch. I will look in my service manual to verify it is the lock up and test it... I will "report" my findings...

Thanks for the reply 88delta88!

Any other thoughts on this?

Andrew
