ok heres the deal.
my 91-98 is lacking power. at first i thought it was a transaxle solenoid because it acted like it was stuck in third gear, but i am not sure if thats what it is. i changed the spark plugs and added transmission fluid, and still it is lacking power. i dont think its stuck in third gear because i can drop it down to first gear manually and it lacks power, and when i put it into second gear i can feel the gears shift. if anyone can help me i will greatly appreciate it.

if you can feel it shift from 1-2 when you manually move the selector, the trans is not stuck in third. That does not rule out other trans problems, or engine problems for that matter. Need more info. How long has this been happening, and are there any times it is worse or better?

You said you added trans fluid, how low was it, and does it leak?

Do you get a check engine light coming on at all? You havent described the lack of power in any depth. You'll need to explain a little further to get any results.

Your catalytic converter may be getting clogged. Mine used to do that before I gutted it. I had my performance back afterwards. Try a general tune-up first, then go from there.

it started on monday(8/7). the check engine light is on, and i'm getting code 36 on the diagnostics test. i found out thats a solenoid problem, but i had to dig around on the internet to figure that out because the haynes manual i got did not list a code 36. it hasnt gotten better or worse, its just always the same. the transmission is not leaking, and i put two quarts of transmission fluid into it. some one suggested it was the torque converter because its taking a whole lot more engine to just go from 0-15mph then it will accelerate more normal after about 20mph. i also got code 26 but that was said to be the qaud drive module circuit.

we figured it out. no transmission solenoid, nothing huge at all. it was just a blown fuse and took 2 minutes to replace. its a little hard to believe but thats all it was, runs great now.
